In Madurai ELCOT has got SEZ status for two places namely Ilandhaikulam (29 acres) and Vadapalanji (240 acres). ELCOT will be developing TIDEL park at Ilandhaikulam, and has allocated only 10 acres to IT companies and in the rest 19 acres TIDEL park will be established. ELCOT also has plans to develop IT parks in 100 acres at Vadapalanji with social infrastructure, and hence has sold out only the rest to corporates.

[QUOTE=senthilnatha;16211074]Its looks like in near future Tidel Park is coming up only in Chennai and Coimbatore. In other cities ELCOT is just selling the lands to corporates.
You could be right. TN govt doesnot have financial resources to develop on its own TIDEL park in all cities. Mr Umashankar has already spoken about selling of lands to IT companies to develop their own parks in cities other than chennai and CBE or they were looking for some sort of joint ventures. Now the actions are going on in that direction only |

I would not be surprised if MDU park comes along with CBE. Any way India is growing. That's a good sign. CBE is having brighter prospects & investments. Let hope for the best.

Recently, the land opposite to Nava India was cleaned & there were signs of construction activity coming up. Probably, this could be it.
It can also be in Peelamedu - Radhakrishna mills. It is too early to confirm the same. Should wait for official news. Can you provide the source?

Excavation in Nov - Oct 07. What do they have in store for Nov?? Let us talk about private IT parks & their prospects. Lot are coming up. Already few are operating (KGISL, STPI).

Rail link: Coimbatore’s cup of woes overflows
The more than three-decade-old dream of Coimbatore coming under a division headquartered within the State is turning out to be a reality after a series of protests and representations. However, the cup of woes continues to overflow in terms of better rail connectivity for the region.
The new Salem Railway division being inaugurated on Thursday renews the hopes of the rail users in the Western Tamil Nadu for better rail connectivity and infrastructure. Despite being the second largest revenue spinner in the Southern Railway next to Chennai, Coimbatore continued to suffer from poor rail connectivity. Coimbatore that hosts a number of industries, textile mills, manufacturing facilities, educational institutions and hospitals besides being a gateway for Kerala and Udhagamandalam, a hill station in the neighbouring Nilgiris, continued to suffer from inadequate rail connectivity, pointed out S. Vaidyanathakrishnan of the Coimbatore Railway Passengers Association. He also stressed the need for areas within a State remaining under the control of a division headquartered within the State to avoid complaints of discrimination. Taking away of the railway headquarters from Podanur to Olavakkode in Palakkad district of Kerala marked the beginning of partisan and step-motherly treatment for Coimbatore and nearby areas, observed K. Kathirmathiyon, secretary of Coimbatore Consumer Cause. Inordinate delay in completing the construction of two-railway overbridges and the work for doubling the railway line between Coimbatore and Irugur dragging on for the last two decades stand testimony to the step-motherly attitude, he added. While the railway authorities were keen to have Coimbatore with the Palakkad division because of its revenue potential, they seldom bothered to provide new trains or facilities at the railway stations, accused C.M. Jayaraman, vice-president of the Citizens Voice Club. Introduction of new train services with Coimbatore as the origination point would definitely serve the travel needs of those living in Udhagamandalam, Erode, Tirupur and other nearby places, he added. IT destination The textile city proving to be a promising Information Technology destination was attracting workforce besides visitors/tourists. But getting a confirmed train ticket would be a Herculean task, K. Ramakrishnan of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam pointed out. Mr. Ramakrishnan said there was an immediate need for direct overnight express train service from Coimbatore to destinations such as Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Nagercoil and Rameshwaram besides service to Goa via Mangalore. In the absence of a direct overnight train service to destinations in Southern districts, the people are forced to relay on bus services. In the absence of bus service, the omnibus operators thrived charging exorbitant fares. Coimbatore today accounted for operation of more than 100 omnibuses to various destinations. The immediate need would be to operate direct night train service to Nagercoil/Kanyakumari and Rameshwaram via the existing broad gauge line rather than waiting for the completion of the gauge conversion of the Coimabtore – Dindigul – Madurai section. Similarly, the large number of Keralites living in and around Coimbatore for travelling to Thiruvananthapuram and other destinations in Kerala had to rely on the few train services or omnibuses. There is no overnight train connectivity between Bangalore and Coimbatore. For tapping the tourist traffic and pilgrims visiting Tirupati on a regular basis, the Southern Railway could run daily services to Goa via Mangalore and to Tirupati. But these demands had always been turned down with stock replies such as pathway congestion and lack of terminal facilities. In the last several years, nothing significant had been done to tide over these constraints to make the Railways help accelerate the growth of this region. All those rejoicing over the formation of the new division are pinning hopes that the new division would get these long-pending demands turn into a reality. |

Land Name Location Area (acres) Allotted Remaining Tier II City - IT Parks / SEZ Coimbatore 62 27.53 34.47 In CBE the total land available for ELCOT is 62 acres not 29 acres. There is no large bunch of government land available within city limits. Please note that ELCOT SEZ land is converted from Health department. Just holding lot of land in acres doesn't means that it will attract lot of IT companies. In Chennai most of the IT Parks are constructed in 3-4 acres with 7-8 storeys. In CBE also same is happening, eg ETL, RR,. We should be happy that we will have top 4 software companies (Wipro, HCL, CTS & TCS) of our country and MNCS like Perot, Robert Bosch, Tesco.... which is good sign for our city's transformation into IT hub. |

. It was just my view and the way ELCOT worked in CBE SEZ may happen to other cities too. CBE SEZ got the approval in 2006, website started, booking started and tenders also published in 2007 but why they didn't start the work ?? It's million dollar question. TN Govt or ELCOT cannot start (money matters) the work at the same for the all the cities. They are executing one by one. fyi - CBE Tidel Park is bit now delayed bcoz of the AAI's objection on the height of the building. So they are modifying the design. |

The company would soon open similar outlets at various parts of Coimbatore and places like Madurai, Salem, Tiruchirapalli and Tirupur. It would employ around 30 trained sales associates, apart from generating direct and indirect employment opportunity in its supply chain and back-end operations, they said. (I saw a Reliance Fresh store coming up in Sathy Road - Saravanampatty) |
