Power ministry looks beyond BHEL for high-end equipment

Press Trust Of India / New Delhi January 29, 2008

To meet the target of 78,000-Mw power generation during the Eleventh Plan (2007-12), the power ministry plans to float a tender inviting firms to manufacture equipment based on super-critical technology.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) is the only company in the country that manufactures such equipment.

“Only BHEL is active in manufacturing such super-critical equipment. This is not sufficient.... We will float a bulk tender for global industries’ participation,” said Power Secretary Anil Razdan.

He, however, declined to give further details.

Razdan said the equipment supplied by BHEL was not enough to meet the country’s needs as the demand was very high. “... Give global industries a chance to take part (in manufacturing super-critical equipment) in the country,” he added.

He said the entry of more players would lead to more competition and an improvement in the quality of the products. It would also provide customers more choice, he added.

The government aims to place orders for equipment for the planned capacity addition by March this year.

Hope Trichy is able to attract big investments given its highly skilled labor and existing supplier base. It is in the hand of TN govt to faciliate such investments.

Pest Management to take over Tuticorin Alkali Chemical and Fertiliser Ltd

Pest Management and Consultants (India) Private Ltd (PMC), a SSI unit and certified pest control service company based in Chennai, will be going in for initial public offer during early next fiscal to raise about Rs 42 crore.

The Managing Director of PMC, Mr K. Raghunandan Rao, said the IPO was to support capacity expansion programme of the company for a total outlay of Rs 45 crore.

Currently, PMC offers general pest control and fumigation services among others to a host of clients in different segments. Besides, it also has a software division developing ERP portal and customised management solutions.

Expansion

Since the company plans to expand its activities, it decided to get into manufacturing liquid insecticides, which will make it cost competitive by about 25 per cent. “We will be acquiring the insecticides unit of Tuticorin Alkali Chemical and Fertiliser Ltd in Tiruchi. The deal will be finalised for Rs 1.5 crore, which will form part of the first phase of funding,” he said.

The expansion project would be in two phases. In the first phase, the company would raise Rs 2.15 crore by way of private placement of equity shares. Subsequently, the PMC would be converted in to a public limited company,he said, reports The Hindu Business Line.

HI members,
After two years i went to trichy last week. I felt in the two years trichy has developed. I could see many changes.

Some works were goin in Trichy central busstand. Is it multi parking or shopping complex?
After expansion it could handle still more buses. Before it was congested. As trichy is a important junction in Tamilnadu still it can be expanded. But maintence is not proper. Some actions should be taken.

I saw some new longer buses(orange color) as in chennai. It had a decent crowd. The fare is same as ordinary bus?

In Trichy Junction some works were going in full swing. Its about to finish i suppose. IT has most of the facilities and a very good maintence. Station was so clean. I am expecting trichy jn will receive cleanliness award this year. I feel trichy needs some new connectivities to north India.

It is the multi parking that is coming up in the bus stand.Trichy corporation has already apporved an Integrated Bus stand at devadhanam, but there is no progress due to lawsuit against the proposal in the court.

NHAI begins maintenance work on Tiruchi-Dindigul Highway

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started maintenance work on Tiruchi-Dindigul Highway at an outlay of Rs.1.3 crore. The road, battered by floods and torrential rains in the last two years, developed a number of potholes all through its 88-km stretch and posed a threat to road-users. Providing a vital link between Tiruchi city and major towns, including Palani, Dindigul, Theni and Manapparai, the road accounted for a huge volume of heavy vehicles throughout the day.

Continuous plying of heavy vehicles on the potholes had damaged the road at places such as Vellivadi. Director of Project Implementation Unit, Madurai, Selvaraj, said the NHAI would carry out patch-work and re-laying of the entire stretch within a few months. He said the absence of bidders for the tenders called for by the NHAI had delayed the execution of the project. On completion, the road would be handed over to a private firm under the ‘Build Operate and Transfer’ programme for regular maintenance, Mr. Selvaraj said.

http://www.hindu.com/2008/02/03/stor...0359590600.htm

Finally there will be relief for the people travelling on this highway. It has been almost 3 years since the highway was damaged due to the floods.

semi low-float bus services in trichy

TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Tiruchi region, on Monday introduced semi-low float bus service in the city.

Transport Minister K.N. Nehru flagged off the new services in three routes at a brief function held at Chathiram bus stand.

The semi-low float buses have been designed with lower levels of footboard and floor. The footboard has only two steps against the normal three.

Additional comforts

The bus will specifically benefit women, the aged and school students. The chair car, air-suspension and railway-type windows are additional comforts for passengers.

The automatic door will eliminate footboard travelling.

The TNSTC has proposed to introduce 25 semi-low float buses in the city limits in the near future.

Siruganur

What is the latest on any developments in Siruganur? There appears to be a lot of real estate activity in Siruganur. Besides the three engg colleges, are there any other proposals for new industries?

Siruganur is 20-30Km from the proposed Perambalur SEZ and may be one of the reason for the spurt in the real estate activity.
