In the first week of my architecture course a partner of Penoyre & Prasad gave us a lecture on some of their projects. He skipped over the slide with Guy's reclad on it pretty quickly and showed us some of their more visually successful projects instead...

One ugly building (admittedly not a skyscraper) I have seen recently is Wilmcote House near me in Portsmouth. It wouldn't be half as bad had it not been painted horrible colours some time in the recent past...

I find it hard to believe that someone once looked at that building and thought "Hm, this would look a lot better if some squares painted in the two worst colour choices for a high-rise were put on this in random zig-zaggy shapes. And then, of course, leave some of the facade undone.

At least the other side looks a bit better.

That side is better - the bad thing is the side you see from elsewhere in the city is the cream, blue and concrete side so it just looks like a garish wall painted across the local skyline.

I've always felt Central Plaza in Hong Kong was kitsch, and an eyesore.

Although.... I've seen images of it in the evening and personally it looks spectacular! I think that what makes it somewhat ugly is the base which somewhat depletes the building of its roundness thus, making it look unusual and chubby. Other than that, if you view the building without its base, it looks sleek and very nice

Not a skyscraper, but JEEEEZ...

Luxor, Sofia, Bulgaria

It's like the architect made a list of all possible design mistakes and put them in one building. It mught just be the ugiest building I've ever seen, worse than that slug-looking mostrosity in Graz.

Some more recently unveiled crimes against architecture:

101 Murray Street, NYC

Baku Tower

Quite interesting design in my opinion, but the thing at the top ruins it
