Generally, i think its a good looking tower. It however has an ugly base (first three/four floors) and ugly top

Look at what the USSR replaced beautiful Konigsberg Castle with in Kaliningrad!

And this horrible creature has dominated the Edmonton skyline forever. I think it would look better as a burning pile of rubble.

Actually this building looks slightly more aesthetic because it has been refurbished, but I have to agree that the castle would look much more gainly.

This building has been finished quite recently in Christchurch, NZ.

It didn't turn out as bad as I thought, but it is a lot worse than what it could have been.

That's the problem. I think that a lot of those big ugly things (usually concrete) probably would survive an earthquake.

Beauty and ugliness are truly the most subjective concepts that humanity has. After all how many times have you walked down the street and thought "What is he doing with her?" or vice versa?

You cannot ever tell someone that their opinion on what is ugly or beautiful is wrong because it is their opinion. It is like telling someone that they are wrong because they like to eat cheese or that they are wrong to like Bach. "Wrong" is not the correct word to use at all.

You can say that they have different tastes to you, that you think their taste is weird or that you disagree but you cannot say they are wrong or that they know nothing in making that decision. Aesthetics and one's own subjective appreciation, or not, of anything is unaffected by knowledge, it is a feeling, an emotion, that no amount of knowledge of architectural history can affect.

For that reason, those that say that these opinions given in this thread show people on SSC know nothing about architecture are in fact showing their ignorance of a far more important subject: Human nature and behaviour.

I think this monster is not only ugly, it makes the entire city center look bad:
Neudeflat - Utrecht (the Netherlands)

Source: Bobdebouwer

Also ugly, but thankfully placed far, far from the city center:
van Unnikgebouw (Utrecht University - the Netherlands)
