It simply sad that you cannot see that a cultural background is a necessity for a desireable city. Have you ever been in Europe or Asia, or even only New York / San Francisco (for example)?

Paying foreign architects and foreign low-income workers with oil money to construct endless lines of hotels and shopping malls will only deliver you a soulless accumulation of buildings, but nothing that is worth mentioning in history books.

No matter who's wrong or right: such general discussions might kill any specific construction thread - at least it gets annoying after a while.

Especially if critics don't belong only for the topic's project, but for a city, lifestile or skyscrapers as a whole, they should be posted in Citytalk and Urban Issues or in the Skybar, AFAIK.

Of course the Dubai Creek area around D1 looks mostly like a bleak desert right now, but big developments need time. I bet landscape designers will surely plant greening and help to improve the environment in the wake of the property. And maybe there'll be a vivid neighbourhood in a few years - let's see.

... oh the D1 tower, yes is tall now and not far from topping over. The cladding progresses nicely too.
