NOW RECONSTRUCTION NEWS
...the cost of the reconstruction of this once charming city in central Angola have been put at $800 million, only city centre...In my eyes this is under-estimated, the reconstruction will most likely swallow billions of US Dollars. Remember Huambo is among the cities that was hardest hit by the war. Quote:

The reconstruction of Huambo is real, I was there last June and i was happy to see that the government has already started to work.
Most of the public roads have or are being fixed, and the national roads to Huambo are much better, now you can go to Huambo without going to Lubango or Benguela first. Btw I know that the biggest Shoprite and Maxi in Angola are going to be in Huambo and they were already u/c. Both of them are being built on the way from the airport to the city. I strongly believe that Huambo will be a great city again!!! |

The new article is quite revealing about the (re)construction work going on there...
it the past it was planned to transform Huambo into the capital of Angola. The city is already 95 years of age. Airport modernization, an industrial park, a new Angolan hypermarket, new sport facilities, restauration of old buildings and restauration of all the buildings along the avenues of the city (started two years ago), the 200 km new roads with new street illumination, new banking institutes open, new credit systems are installed, the new hospital and restauration of the old hospital for multi-million of dollars have started since 2006, hospitals will be equipped with top-notch facilities, new portable drinkable water lines are laid, massive work has started on electricity generation, the government wants Huambo to have stable electricity supply in three years time, rehabilitation of universities and academic intitutes is on going etc, room for new factories is provided etc, some have already popped up.... just read it in detail!

Huambo early 70´s
![]() ![]() ![]() a building u/c ![]() Please, Ekuikui has the train service been rehabilitated in the meantime? ![]() ![]() PS: Believe me guys, I sincerly wish that Huambo gets the nice, thriving and clean city it once was in the future! It is so easy to find old pics on the net but new ones - especially those of reconstruction - are very hard to get hold of....we need someone from Huambo to keep us updated.

Well Matt, I dont know much about the train lines but i know theres a train connection between Huambo and Caala, but i strongly believe that it will be improved soon as these lines are part of the CFB (Benguela's railway System) and the government has intention to connect Angola to Zambia by rail lines. I wish i could say more about it.

Yes, thats true. One of then is the "Predio da Fapa", it is going to be torn down and there's even a plan almost approved of the new building that is going to rise there. I know from a very safe source that more than 20 7 stores buildings are going to be built there and the houses will be sold/given for a very symbolic price and they will be for the workers of public sectors. It is the way the government wants to attract "working power" to Huambo. I dont know wich companies are going to build them but im pretty sure they are chinese.
