Those aren't really floors. It's like the spire in Khalifa Tower, it looks occupied but is really just empty space. The top floor is roughly where the terrace is, which is part of the prince's private suite. There are several mechanical spaces, then the damper. There isn't much else above that.

I vehemently disagree with this part of your statement. Design and artistic merit are at the core of an architecture forum. People should be able to express their viewpoint and share views with others. If you don't encourage that kind of debate, then you just get a bunch of stupid photos of sand dunes, racist trolling, and the photos of the same hole in the ground from 10 equally boring angles. All of which drive the knowledgeable people away from this thread, making it a trash heap of bullshit.

Having said that, there is a big difference between:

"Abraj Al-Bait is fugly"

and

"Abraj Al-Bait uses an inappropriate use of scale, which would work fine for a low to midrise, but is too busy for a landmark of this size and ends up looking cartoon-ish. It becomes a parody of the ancient designs it tries to imitate."

One of those statements is actually constructive, in that it specifically points out what is wrong with the building and how, if the architect built something else on that scale, what they would need to avoid. Constructive does not mean supportive. You can be critical, and if articulated well enough, can actually teach you something about architecture and how to develop your own sense of what is and isn't aesthetically pleasing.

And please, stop calling Burj Khalifa the Burj Dubai.
Burj Dubai sounds better...

Hi STR.

True dat but there never seems to be any educated debate.

That was the reason for my statement, and the others I posted with it.
There was only the proverbial "I hate the design" comments ...

Hi Vito.

Good to here another encouraging word from someone in the know.

Hey,

Yes, thank you. Just trying bring some positive news to this thread. I am always happy to see a super/megatall get built, no matter where it is in the world or what it looks like. These structures are an achievment for all of mankind.

Thanks Vito! Good vibrations! I agree with you tall buildings are a gift to all mankind!

Thanks Vito! I am happy to hear you have good news coming imminently. We all hope Jeddah kingdom Tower will start to rise up soon. It's design is stunningly beautiful, and I will check all internet to find news -if any- about construction start. I guess when construction begins it will be news all over the world and certainly here, and so too at the site of Adrian Smith Gordon Gill. I hope the tower will defeat pessimism and economic woes. I have a lot of faith in the great project! Warmest greetings from Holland!
