As castletower said, all of this pics are curtesy of admin of the site engineersinside.com who is working on the project. Big thanks to him, and visit his site if you're interested in civil engineering projects, there is lots of interesting articles in here. I for one find very interesting (and never heard of before) the up side down hanging monorail in germany, and automatic robotic parkings also in germany. If you are interested in that kind of stuff there is a lot in this site.

Now, to the pictures:

They are from January and February, and presents installation of 78m long test pile.

not really sold on the design, same with the khalifa, it neglects good and considered design for pure height (I know I'll be trolled for that but its just an opinion)

i think it is a very futuristic design, but i agree that it is quite a shame to build a building like one big pinnacle to get a new record.

Yeah, I always say: Nakheel Tower - that was the next level. Wide almost to the very top of it. Even with same height as Kingdom that would be so much more epic

I agree, but even though the last 200 meters of the building is nothing but pinnacle, the rest of it is still pretty impressive.

It really just looks like a big needle. It's meh...

yes but its still improving and pushing the limits what we do, and I'm positive that with more and more pinnacle and triangle heavy structures leading, we will see the boxy buildings increasing in height too. I don't think it will take too long to see a 800m building with a flat roof in future x) even if these buildings won't be the tallest on earth anymore

I think the proportion makes the spire look very slim yes, but I think in reality it will be a lot thicker. Look how thin the top of Burj Khalifa looks on pictures, a lot thinner than on this, and then look at the picture of someone on top of that pinnacle, it's the size of a very small room, I can imagine the tip of this will be the size of a small-medium room.

Unless all you guys complaining can come up with another design that doesn't make the building fall over when the wind blows...I suggest you shut up! If you didn't notice those last photos are showing the model in a wind tunnel......

+1 actually the first one was a model for the (Cladding Wind Pressures, Structural Wind Loading on both the tower and the spire, Aeroelastic Effects, Sky lobby study and a Supplementary Damping System Concept Design Tests) taking in consideration the foundations design.

Actually, that has already been done -> Nakheel Tower So it is very well possible. It's just that Kingdom Tower more than about anything is concerned about it's height and that's why it looks how it looks. I wouldn't say the design is bad, but I would love to finally see some epic megatall design with goals more ambitious than just being world tallest structure where half of the tower don't even have usable floors.

The appearance of the building is bland, it's altogether unnecessary; ultimately, its statement's impotent ... a sheer waste of money when much classier ways abound at expressing, relating prestige

Utter uselessness

Because it is wind tunnel. Every supertall has to be tested for aerodynamics
