Yeah... it does look like it would be unstable given the small cross-sectional area at the base; however, it's been redesigned a few times already since the first concepts released to the public. I would think the designers wouldn't release a design that would not work.

This is much more likely to get built than al burj (or nakheel harbour tower or whatever) simply because the Saudis probably have enough money to build this 10 times over if they wanted. Dubai, well, isn't so resource rich so I have my doubts over the insane stuff proposed there.

My initial count goes quite over 250. Top to bottom. Considering every line is a floor.

Feel free to debate me in the debating section.

And in your estimation New York is not as good as Jeddah if you think traffic makes the worst of a city. New York has more traffic.

1. As a "tourist", sure I would visit Dubai over Jeddah. That's a given. Dubai has more things packed in a smaller area. I would be able to do more in less time.

2. Are you saying you like traffic or traffic makes a place more appealing? Traffic doesn't make a city worst than another but it makes the city a more hectic and stressful place to live. It is just frustrating to sit in traffic while commuting to work and school every day. Trust me, I know. I live in the DC area, which has worse traffic than the NY area. (read up on it..NY traffic isn't as bad as some other parts of the US because of its efficient public transport system). Therefore, I would rather live in Jeddah. Another reason to live in Jeddah? I would get a much bigger and much nicer place to live compared to Dubai for the same price. Like I said, some people like that sort of thing but it isn't for everyone. I like visiting NY but I wouldn't really want to live there.

But obviously this will be WAY taller than 1000m, I mean, why would you reveal the height if you got Nakheel itching to trump you? There is a lot to be said for mystery. The 1000m figure is a low ball amount which I am sure is intended to lure Nakheel into designing in the 1000-1200m range, after which it will be revealed this tower is infact 1400m+.

It would suck to be a developer, build a 1.1km tall tower, and not even get the tallest building crown no?:P
haha..so true.. very well put..

Hi all

If the article about the reduction of the height by 500m minimum is right, then we can expect a tower with maximum 1100m. Itīs totally usual that the prince of whatever bla wonīt tell the media his tower which already surpasses the 1000m mark (IF BUILT) wonīt be the new WTB! They need as much press attention as possible now, so the headline "Saudi prince will build new WTB" is perfect for it.

It's only the Persian Gulf countries that are in a construction frenzy.

Jip 1200m will be the final heigt. Its heigh but surtainly possible to built it!

And just enough to overtake the nakheel tower... the tower is drasticly scaled down from the original 1609m.

Hmm, what to say about this. Not very exciting design, but I feel dubious about the construction, how will this big thing stand windforce? Constructing this heigh it should be designed aerodynamicly and it doesn't seem so....

Totaly wrong is must say the design dont cant even better! Its a sharp building like a blade in the sky. Second point is that it is important that everything is closed (glass allover) or cladded.

Compared with a rocket its the same design.

And the groundplan is good!

Yes it indeed looks like a rocket. But rockets are designed to fly up and for a building the wind will be coming from the side, not from above so you can not compare that for sure. I study for that but some logical thinking will also be enough I only don't know why everything should be closed. It is commonly known that holes are preferable to let the wind blow through. Like Shanghai WFC for example. BD already swings out a meter or something at the top, I wonder what this structure will do...

Once again guys, if they really want to build a such iconic structure. Do you really think, that this is the final design?

I now that...

The form and shape and even the floorplan is much the same as GUANGZHOU | West Tower |
