These two companies are project managers. On the construction site you won't notice when they start their work because they are not construction companies. It's a good sign though since it seems they won't just drill some piles for PR and then stop the work like at Nakheel Tower...

They might be just project managers, but multiple sources mentioned lately strictly about construction start on april or middle of the year which was pretty confusing. Maybe it is like you said more about formal taking over than any actual phases of construction, and media just got it wrong.

only 600m ?? this would be terrible it schould at least has a floor above 700-750 m otherwise there wouldn't be a difference with the burj.

Keep in mind that this will be more than 1007m, it could easily be 1200 or so. Impressive either way.
oh i wish. but i think we won't get a tower taller than 1150m, most likely between 1100m and 1000m i think.

i also hope the highest floor will be above 700m. but we know the tower will have a very tall spire on top.
We'll get the answer when the tower is rising in an area above 600m

"Why does Jeddah need the tallest tower in the world? That's a very good question," says John Harris the co-head of Jones Lang LaSalle's Saudi Arabian practice.

"There's very much a feeling that Riyadh has its own iconic buildings and Jeddah wants to compete. The tourism market is strong and we're starting to see an increase in office rents and there is not a lot of good quality master-planned space.

"So I think the idea of Kingdom City is a good one but whether it needs a kilometre tall tower to go with that is an open question."
A good question indeed. But I think we all know the answer.

Hopefully it isn't a joke
Seriously though, I look forward to when this is stickied at the top of the U/C forum like the Burj Dubai/Khalifa was.

When enough is going to be enough? to build such a monster of a tower in the middle of nowhere, and i know that Jeddah is the second largest city in Saudi Arabia with a population of 3.2 million but, still most people never herd of the place.

Its a big city, the goal of this project is to develop it even further. Dubai used to be literally in the middle of nowhere, it wasnt even a town, and now it's worlwide recognized.

Maybe in the future they could build a skyscraper into space spacescraper and when you get to a certain level you have to wear space suit technology and engineering is unstoppable. Bear in mind.

living in these heights is unlikely and far too costly, yet something like a space elevator would indeed make sense at one point in the future may be feasable.

It looks like we are going to see accumulating cost as the building progresses. I doubt that initial budget will construct a proposed one kilometer high building.
