I have major objections against the Saudi government structure and Saudi human rights status but I still love this building. I think that, the number of people that judge buildings based on location is far smaller than what people usually estimate it to be

Besides, this will be the world's tallest building so that title alone will give it a lot of fame

What I meant is that most people have the idea that "oh, some stupid rich sheik is just building it so he can brag about it" when in reality, there's much more complicated reasoning.

It seems that engineering constraints for this have driven much of the design. To make those terraces more aesthetic may ruin their wind channeling abilities.

This structure IS over 1 KM in height...

Instead of building all the giants, middle eastern cities should work on developing a full city and infrastructure.
The building boom in NYC of the 20's and 30's.
40 Wall Street, The Chrysler Building and the ESB caused a multi-decadal office glut in Manhattan that did not resolve until the late 1950's! The Empire State Building was mostly empty until after WW2.

When these sorts of structures are built this is taken into account, and the best CRE agents on the planet are hired to sell these structures.

stretching a building just for height is kinda cheap and ugly IMO.

Hopefully some day I will, but you are right saudi arabia isn't exactly an open country. I yet have to see a picture of the site shot by a tourist not by resident, employee or businessman.

If nothing has changed recently at best only only larger groups of tourists on strictly organized trips are allowed to the country.

Last time I checked Jeddah is open for everyone. Nd I'm sure they have an international airport for a reason.

I find that a bit rich to say, so the human rights thing is irrelevant when you're trading and building bases in SA but it's relevant when they're building towers? We live in a diverse world, people have different believes, opinions, cultures and traditions get over it.

It's the exact opposite. Costs more/is worth more, and most buildings look better the taller they are.

We talked about this many times already so I'm not going into details here again as this is offtopic but I wonder if there is at least a single person here who visited jeddah or any place in saudi arabia on an individual tourist trip? Anyone?
