I just don't get why it is such a big deal where it's located. I mean, does it read differently if it is in the U/C section instead of the PREP section? The thread looks the same to me no matter where it's located so i'm not sure why anyone would care.
The shit some people bitch about

Hudson Yards is U/C you are correct. However, the reason it is in the Proposed Supertalls section still is because people refuse to split the thread. Therefore, that one thread represents 4 towers, the entire complex. The Coach Tower is U/C but is not a supertall and so the whole thread is where it belongs, in the Proposed Supertalls section.

The thread should really just be split but people have refused that logical idea.

For this tower, it has been U/C since April. The 63 month construction plan started April 1st.

I'm sure a couple pages in the future someone will ask the same question and someone else will have to give them this same explanation. Things on here need to repeated several times before people understand what's going on.

What a monumentally large pointy thing. Hope it gets built with good safety record & they mount a potato gun defense turret at the tippy top...

By the way, the 3 sided design is the only possible way to construct such massive towers without them falling over from wind, the tapering also helps with the wind. Odd numbered cornered structures are more stable than even numbered cornered structures in general.

It's just that the first post of a thread should be updated. Similar to Skyscraperpage, where you'd even get a basic information tab on top of any construction page. Thus you'd avoid people asking again and again about a status, a building's completion and what not.

It makes sense, and I proposed it years ago, but SSC refuses to develop technologically.
Virtually, a forum like SSC is a thing of the 20th century...

Anyway. Let's continue with Kingdom Tower.

Glad to finally see this building beginning construction, hopefully turns out alright and doesn't need to be financially bailed out!

A little off topic, but it really looks like Dubai wont let the KT achieve its glory of being the highest Building in the world.

We knew Emaar would build it, but today we have learned where the location will be. The building will be built at the Lagoons, and they have also mentioned the Dancing Towers are also going to be built.

Emaar plans a new tallest, but it is in a far earlier stage than kingdom tower, so even if it works out and emaar builds a new worlds tallest, it will in no way finish before kingdom tower.

That's for sure, and I would have preferred the next contender to launch when this one is way underway (i.e. several floors up)

if the new tower from emaar breaks ground anytime i guess Kingdom Tower will be almost halfway up.
it took a long time until they finally started with Kingdom Tower and i don't think we'll see the next 1000m+ U/C already next year or so. at least i can't imagine that.

well no matter how unlikely or likely the projects are, after kingdom tower we still have the chance to get Sky City, Azerbaijan Tower and the one in dubai up. And i would not be surprised if another 1000m tower in china will be proposed in the next few years. So Kingdom Tower may not be the world's tallest for as long as Burj Khalifa will reign. At least i do hope the next contestant will start construction before Kingdom Tower is finished and i am quite optimistic that it may happen

That would be a wise way of doing tall things! But BK shows us that's not always the case. They would've achieved the same results and the same amounts of income (or even more) as they got so far, by making the tallestest building in the world, just a hundred+ meters tallester than the tallest uprunners! (i.e., Taipei 101 and ICC Hong Kong). And of course by far, Emaar could've achieved 2 "tallestest" buildings in the world for the same money!
Alternatively, the hundreds of millions dollars saved on the height reduction could've saved millions of lives thoughout the poor contries (yes I said MILLIONS and I mean it!)

Google Earth Model

I've come across this very good model of The Tower. Unfortunately it's 2.2km South of Where it actually will be. I've pointed this out in my review of the model so hopefully the modeller will shift this to where it is being built.......

Here's The Model's Web Page

Good thing it doesn't matter that much, because let's face it, the tower is still surrounded by a desert.
