i'm really not sure but it will be at least 80m i guess. at the lowest part the base of BK is very wide ( 120m or so? ) but Kingdom Tower won't have that. so i guess it will be between 80m and 100m but not sure though

I reckon PAIFC, ST, and Wuhan Greenland are wider.

+∞!!

How come the tallest building in the world's thread is like this? If no pics, atleast, there must be a copy of an online news posted here!

Like some people said earlier, it's because it's not above the ground so nothing interesting here (not sure what the exact wording is). There will be a lot more pics when it's above ground. That will be the interesting part.

Nobody will drive 20 kilometers from Jeddah into the desert to take pictures of sand and some machinery. To sum it up, the last picture will more or less be the same as next few of them.

why is it they didnt even put taipei 101 on that chart? it's taller than shanghai financial center at 508 meters. it always gets neglected for some reason. probably because it wasnt designed by a big name international architect.

Ultra elevator takes you higher with carbon-fibre tape

14:28 11 June 2013 by Paul Marks

Going up? Elevators can now carry people to the top of a kilometre-high skyscraper in a single run. The key is the development of a super-light and super-strong lift-hoisting cable. The sheer weight of the steel cable that hoists today's elevators has prevented them going any higher than 500 metres in one go.

That means, for instance, that people in Dubai's 828-metre-high Burj Khalifa tower, currently the world's tallest building, have to switch lifts to go above the 500-metre mark. But lifts in the nascent Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – due to top out above 1 kilometre in 2019 – could use the new technology to zoom to the top in one go.

With at least 20 buildings more than 500 metres high on architects' drawing boards around the world, and more expected as megacities proliferate, lift maker Kone Corporation of Espoo, Finland, has been engineering ways to move people up and down them in more convenient and less energy-intensive ways. In London yesterday it revealed its solution: UltraRope.

Regarding the lifts:
I would have thought using magnets would be the best way. No moving parts, and no maximum height due to the length of the cables (not so much of a problem with the new technology, but 1km+ of cable would be hell to deal with!)
It would probably be able to go faster as well.

I hope they have a stair race in this one every year like they do at the ESB. But I really don't think it will happen.
