She mentioned HQ in Germany so I doubt he is physically on site.

It's quite simple. People see few machines in the middle of desert so they think it's all scam. It's not so normal to build in the middle of nowhere. Even chinese big projects are usually build in the middle of big urban area. Here even though the site is next to to the city in all pictures it looks like there's nothing except sand. The fact that the works until the last update were taking place below the ground didn't help much either. True there's nothing there... yet

The Rub Al Khali desert is the middle of nowhere.
This is where the Kingdom Tower is:

And as you can see the kingdom tower is being build in the middle of what is now huge empty sand land

Btw the picture you posted doesn't show the actual tower location and not even half of the site kingdom city will occupy.

I doubt that a one kilometre high tower fit into the skyline of Jeddah but..hm...hopefully the Kingdom city would compensate it.

I'm just as serious about this as you. Green can be made, look at Las Vegas. Snow can't.

I haven't been to Saudi Arabia but I've been to neighboring Oman and the UAE. None of those nations have any rivers at all and rainfall is extremely rare so it really isn't practical to imagine that you could turn this area into a tropical paradise by planting lots of vegetation. Dubai has done a pretty good job considering how difficult it is but they mainly get their water from seawater desalination plants which is very expensive. Having lived in the southwest I know that desert landscaping can be beautiful and that would certainly seem appropriate for the grounds around the Kingdom Tower.

Yeah, cause Las Vegas from the air looks any different (you can only see landscaping from the ground)

I've been to Vegas many times over the years, and majority of the landscaping is colored rocks laid in a pattern Really, the only "green" landscaping one can find is located at the resorts where they spend thousands using reclaimed water pretty much around the clock. Water evaporates in like 4.7 seconds in Vegas, so I can only imagine how it is in Dubai.
Btw, snow can be made just as easy. You just need a shit ton of water and a machine

Well you're both kinda wrong and right. Check out these street views from Phoenix Arizona. So you can add greenery and landscaping to the desert but it will never look like Europe. I think people in the Middle East have not yet figured out, or even developed an interest in landscaping their cities the way Poenix is. And as you can see every house is perfectly "manicured". This is because if you don't take care of your yard, you get fined by the city. Not all cities do this and those that don't, don't look like this. Plus it depends on the neighborhood. This older area in Phoenix looks nothing like the new one.

That's exactly right, I lived in Phoenix for a few years and owned one house that had a lawn and a lot of vegetation and then bought another after that with desert landscaping which was so much nicer and easy to care for. Lawns don't belong in a desert as far as I'm concerned although they use grey water (I think that's what they call it) for the golf courses. There are a few plants that would survive without a huge amount of water in a climate like Saudi Arabia. Certain types of palm trees do pretty well and tend to make the area look green. That's probably what they'll end up doing because it's the most practical solution. A desert is actually quite beautiful in it's own way.

And you have been to a Middle Eastern city, right?
