Is this project close to the big fountain, the panorama would be so impressive if both are on the same site

If this is built, we'll have to invent an entirely new categorization for high-rises.

I'd like to suggest that any building ever built over 1 mile tall be called a "Moonscraper."

Or, if that sounds too much like toilet humor, as it just occurred to me it might, I propose the alternative, "Starscraper."

Sorry if this comes as a silly question but... Is there a-n-y kind of demand/need for such a tower? Or is this simply misplaced Saudi pride fueled by too many petro-dollars in hand?

maybe...but what about a city where 3.7 million live, and 60% under 30 years old ??a yearly growth of 9.8%??
naaaa, it's not important!!
and we can't consider this project (which will accommodate 85000) in need for demand because some people still think that Saudi is just targeting foreigners/tourist.
about the ambitions: is not a shame to have an ambitions specially if the people in the country in need for it.
hmmmm about petro-dollars:it has nothing to do with (kingdom holding)...you know what's funny??
there was an article about the "petro-dollars" income to Saudi in 2008:
we produced 3.2 Billion barrel, with an average price of $94
so the "petro-dollars" = $ 300.8 billion
and remember the domestic usage (the prices for the fuel is supported from the government, fuel:1/5 the international prices,Diesel:1/6 the international prices, biotin:1/7 the international prices)
the Saudi G.D.P in 2008 is $502 billion.
so do still think that all the money is just "petro-dollars"??
ok let clear it a bit:
in 1970s: 90% of the governmental income is from petrol.
in 1980s: 82% of the governmental income is from petrol and natural gas.
in 1990s: 75% of the governmental income is from petrol, natural gas and petrochemical industries.
2000-2005: 70% of the governmental income is from petrol, natural gas and petrochemical industries.
2008: 59.78% of the governmental income is from petrol, natural gas and petrochemical industries.
please guys, just be a bit mature before you say something like showing off the bride with oil money or jealousy from some one!!!it's just doesn't make since to someone who knows the Alphabet!! is that what you learned in schools and Unis??!! I don't think so
by the way: EVERYONE has the RIGHT to SHOW OFF if YOU CAN AFFORD THAT
ask who built Eiffel Tower, the CN tower and Burj Dubai

What you piss yourself or something. This thing is way to tall, why not just let Barg Dubai have the WTB title for a little while before going for a 1K tower.

Even if they approve the project today and immediately start soil testing (or whatever comes first), they will need at least 5 years to even think of surpassing BD. No worries, Burj Dubai will retain its WTB status for quite some time. The only project that I know of that can beat it is Burj Mubarak al-Kabir in Kuwait but that tower I believe hasn't been approved yet
