Let me propose a novel idea. Why don't we start a forum that is just about the construction of this beautiful project and nothing else.
At the end of the day it's still a forum. Sure there's a lot of idle chatter but ultimately it's this one tower that ties it all together.

Maybe he got fed up with everybody here

I think he still posts in the Miami threads. I miss him too, though.

I sort of agree with revpmaul here. Nothing exciting happens, and the stuff that does happen is either arguing about whether or not there is progress, reposting of old images, or silly discussions on how the tower should be classified (as if we have any say on the matter).

Or, well, newcomers saying "wow this is tall" or the like.

I propose that this thread be temporarily locked until somebody presents news, pictures or another worthwile reason to reopen it (up-to-date news article, progress pictures, et cetera). Until we know more, all we can do is beating dead horses, extending a thread that has grown far too big already, and thus hiding the stuff we do know beyond ever-growing heaps of silliness.

A firm from my hometown will be one of the main companies involved in the project. They provide formworks for highrises and they said that the first formwork in Jeddah will be needed around the end of spring.

So I guess thats when they start with the core.

Here is the source, in case someone understands german: newspaper article

EDIT: The mentally ill forum software won't let me post the URL. It changes the URL automatically into ***************.
Thank you, forum software, for not allowing to share information in an information forum.

Excellent find!

According to this report, they want to finish one floor per week starting from spring on, and I guess they mean the regular floors by that. So the foundation should be done already, or at least shorly before the raft pour
Btw they also mention 240 floors (might be including all technical floors to the top) and say that the climbing systems will be used up to 970m! I can't believe they are still going to pour concrete at this height, so might be a wrong information here

One thing to keep in mind is that the architects are Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill. They have an amazing track record of completing spectacular -- and spectacularly high -- buildings that look identical to the original renderings. That, more than anything else, gives me confidence that this building will rise to the skies. A lot of things in architecture are speculative, but not track record.

The Tallinn TV tower is quite high by Northern-European standards. It's higher than anything built in Finland, Sweden and Denmark.

Exactly! Just because there aren't pictures, doesn't mean it's not happening. Sometimes a little patience is required. It's certainly nothing to get worked up about.

That is just sad to depend on Rody for pics! if he decided to settle down for good outside KSA, this thread is doomed and we won't be able to see anything of this tower till it is finished!
