I imagine if the tower built same as the final design but as tall as the old design, it will be amazing!

1600m? That would be pretty awesome. But for such a tower we've still to wait.

World’s first kilometre-high tower faces unique challenges

It gives new meaning to the phrase “the sky’s the limit.”

Construction of the world’s first kilometre-high tower is now under way in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and one Canadian expert in tall buildings says there are no real physical limitations when it comes to how high skyscrapers can scrape.

“Technically, we can pretty much do anything we want. It’s just that if you were going to build a 20-kilometre tower, and it would take 100 years to build, it becomes unreasonable in terms of management and payback,” says Richard Witt, a principal of Quadrangle Architects Ltd. and the chair of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat’s Canadian chapter.

First of all, a tens-kilometer-tall building would be quite impractical for the occupants of any kind. Secondly, anything that has rentable floor space above 600+m - contradicts energy conservation in many ways (not only insulation, transportation, multiple hazards and water supply issues).

That's right, the first mile-high needle
For the final height, do you think it will reach 1050m?

I don't wanna spoil anyone's excitement but I am pretty sure this tower height won't be dramatically increased over its original height which will be the in 1000-1010m range and its majorly because they know exactly now how strong the buttressed core is and how much weight it can handle after they applied it originally on BK. So I am really doubtful this tower will have the same dramatic increase in height as of BK.

It's not unlikely they'll reach 1050m or even more but i'm happy with everything above 1000m. And to be true, it's not really necessary to build far above 1000m. The most important is the magical 1000m mark.

I'm sure we won't find out about the final height until the building is nearing completion. That's the way it was with the Burj and there's nothing wrong with that - developers have to keep some things secret for competitive reasons.

Think 4WTC. That's what I mean with elegant smooth surfaces, while maintaining a simple form.

There's nothing wrong with 4wtc but it's just a filler in wtc complex. I would certainly expect more for next wts. See your favorite ryugyong hotel and imagine that instead of nice frame-like edges it would just have another flat blue glass wall. This building would be plain boring like that and this is very similar situation we have here with kingdom tower.

4 WTC is an artfully crafted, beautiful building that you really have to see in person to fully appreciate. Just because it's not a supertall does not make it "filler."

It's filler regardless of it's height. And even if it's good filler it's not wts material.

The architect made it minimalistic on purpose. It's supposed to be the "quiet" building of the site, not somthing that makes a huge statement.

Anyway, shall we get back on topic?
