Hi all.

After looking over all the pics I have, I'm left wondering if they dropped the barrettes from the pile program altogether.

I only see round piles in the center section where the pile program we got a year ago shows all barrettes. The center section is lower than the wing sections by 6 meters or so. I presume this is so the raft will be thicker there.

Anyway, I don't see any rectangular piles anywhere.

I noticed that too. I guess the fact that we have more piles now is mostly related to the fact that barrettes are simply bigger in section so less barrettes was required than round piles. If I was to guess I'd say they maybe did that change to distribute towers mass more evenly to the foundation. You have the old plans - barrettes at the core section weren't as evenly placed under the raft as the piles are now on the google earth pictures we have.

Of course your guess is as good as mine. Maybe we both are partially right

The 45 meters piles are under the wings, the 65 & 85 meter ones are in one row each paralel to the other, where the three wings meat the center section, the 105 meter piles are all densely packed under the center section.

You can easily measure it yourself from proportions.

The barrettes are integral at key structural points as you can see. I remember seeing older pics of the crew lowering rectangular rebar, but couldn't locate them with a quick look back in time.

Yes they were doing some barrettes but those were done two years ago only for testing

btw that drawing explains well what I meant. The barrettes at the core section were replaced with a larger amount of much smaller in diameter round piles hence the overall increase in the number of piles used.

Now we see much bigger amount of piles at core section where only barrettes used to be in plans. They are obviously distributed a lot more evenly than barrettes used to be:

Thanks for clarifying. Makes me hope that like Burj Khalifa they discovered the potential to go higher than originally planned. Hey. We can always dream.

No, the foundations are build for the 1006 meter height. If they go higher it would be because they can make the spire lighter and just as in case of the Burj they can adjust the design after further wind tunel testings.

That most likely won't happen. I always said that I don't think they will add any height because adding significant height to this design during construction would destroy it's simple shape.

Suppose they could add say 50 meters to it (keeping in mind all the restrictions partially built tower imposes) then one should ask himself if it's worth the trouble of all the redesigning and retesting if that hight increase wouldn't make any difference anyway. It's not like we have 1km towers waiting in line to be build. I'm sure sooner or later there will be one but I highly doubt it will be designed to surpass kt just by an inch

Most buildings, especially skyscrapers are designed to take the strain and weight of a much taller/heavier tower than what the tower will actually be!
For example I saw a documentary on the Shard and the actual strength of it could support a tower of almost twice the height (or something along those line), this is all for safety reasons so that the tower will most likely never be pushed to the absolute limits otherwise it could have severe consequences

So don't expect a drastic height change in anyway, although one can hope
