Over the next year this building should create a lot more believers. I always found it odd that there were so many doubters considering the fabulous track record of the architects, AS+ GG, and the endlessly deep pocketbooks of KSA.

The image is deceptive, the comparative images are not to scale. You should check out the diagram feature of skycraperpage.com for a more accurate render. But I agree with you, Burj Khalifa is a wonderful building. That being said, it should also be noted that the basic structural system for the Burj (bundled tube) was first pioneered for the Sears Tower.

Thought the Burj was more of a buttressed core style / reinforced legs and not really a classic bundled tube? Now as if we'll be seeing a tri-legged structural system for anything a mile high, that is to be seen. Designs akin to the old Nakheel Tower had a circular ring and shear wall reinforcement system so given a larger footprint, structural systems other than what we've seen could be used.

Is it just me or are these new megatall towers just copies of Frank Loyd Wright's visions?

They're no copies. But such shapes are the best solution for such tall towers at the moment.

Those cranes,... it's awesome! Can't wait to see more updates and see that it's finally taking shape and it's becoming more "real".

Indeed, they're the most efficient building shape when building tall - especially this tall at this point in time
