that is totally impossible.

Burj Dubai will take about 6 years from the ground breaking to the handover of the units. And it is only half the height of the Mile High Tower.

This tower will only have a concrete core. Floors won't be concrete just like in the Burj. So it will rise pretty quickly in comparison, but I have to admit the 4 years period is a bit optimistic.

1600m is staggering this might end up to be the tallest one day, Nakheel doesn't look to be as tall.

Ground work and piling will take AT LEAST 1.5 year, so 1600 meters in 2.5 years is about.. 2.5 meter per day(!) Quite fast construction process..

Conclusion: bullshit.

I agree, thats probably bullshit! On the other hand, nothing like this has been build before and the construction might be very different, so who knows...

It's good to be open-minded, but... I don't see it happen

They will probably change the design, the new design contract will be awarded next month; the evaluation has started September 2009. It is limited to three designs now. The construction is to begin at the begining of 2010. Jeddah Municipality has formed 27 teams to study the project before approving it within the next two weeks. (They'll approve it of course; it is owned by a prince) Still, I doubt the 4-years period to finish the building, it's simply impossible.

I agree. It needs them at least four years to dig for water channels, build the bridges and main streets, and establish the base of the building.

They'll be lucky if this thing is even out of the ground in 4 years! Clearly, some of these people have been out in the desert sun for waaaaay too long!

not the 3 designs are the problem .. but the period for which such a building is requested to be completed .. what constructors will offer their services for a 4 year mega construction ..I love it..I'm curios who will win this contract and how long it will take them to do it..can't wait

It is about time someone invented a 'Jetsons' method of skyscraper production. No more steel and concrete. Just a stereo lithography machine that can form a building by hardening polymers with lasers. Even the windows could be formed with a clear material. Oh well, I guess that is still quite a few years away!
