Yeah they would fight along with all the guyed masts. The same reason why we compare towers, chimneys and buildings all separately. Currently burj khalifa is the tallest structure, nevermind if building, tower or even mast. Kingdom tower will be the next to take the title, but I am also always curious about the othe categories that could steal the title, there were some towers proposed that were over 1000m in the past, along with updraft tower chimneys that could also get the title. These structures are all also a lot faster built than buildings that size. but even if something like that, as unlikely as it is, gets built before kingdom tower, the title of the tallest building still stays

Technically, the tallest structure ever is an ocean platform in the Gulf of Mexico that is 4200 feet.

And there are plans for an 8000 foot platform as well.

I guess that no mast or tv tower will get the title as tallest structure back in the near future.

i still have the feeling that one day the tallest structures will be mixtures between buildings and towers. i mean we already have a growing trend of longer and longer spires, wouldn't be unthinkable to have a building so massive that part of the spire is still big enough for an elevator and observation decks halfway up it.

Yes but these are a very different category! As these platforms go to new dept's, it only shows that we have already tapped our worlds easy to access oil and now have to go after the harder to get oil.

Thanks everyone. I am passionate about every aspect of construction. I find the piling work just as amazing as spire. I don't post often as I do not have much to offer in terms of knowledge.

I should say, as an excited fan, thank you to all of you around the world who share you great knowledge with us. The biggest thank you to those who are there in Jeddah who give us these beautiful images that are truly inspiring.

I followed BK from the beginning, but built a new profile for KT.

Keep up the great work everyone. Don't be so focused on the final height that you miss the beauty and artistry of the raft, the first floor or any of the other elements we are seeing right now. These early elements are far more amazing than the tip of a spire. What we see right now will never be seen again, it will be buried deep inside the finished building. It is what we see now that will hold that spire in place, 1000m up, for generations.

That's enough talk from me, back to the important content.

Perhaps it was just using the other type of formwork for the first floor? Wouldn't the formwork need two or three floors to have enough room to be installed and move upwards? I'd imagine at any rate there's good reason for the choice.

The design is marvelous, more than the Burj Khalifa.

Thx again for the pics

Now it's clear, they're really installing the climbing formwork already. Not long and it'll pick up speed
