BC Conduit gets approval for world's tallest tower

Quote:
BC Conduit, an affiliate of Bahra Cables Co., has been qualified to be among the companies competing to supply UPVC conduits for electrical installations at Kingdom Tower in Jeddah.

The UPVC conduits used for electrical installations are made of polyvinyl chloride (UPVC), and are produced in the BC Conduit factory, which has an annual capacity of 36,000 tonnes.

BC Conduit Company gets the raw material of polyvinyl chloride (UPVC) from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), one of the world's largest manufacturers of this material and the only producer in the Kingdom.

The BC Conduit factory was built in cooperation with the Swiss company BOSS and is equipped with the latest technologies.

Kingdom Tower will be built in northern Jeddah by Kingdom Holding Company, which is owned by his Royal Highness, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz. The total cost of the project is estimated at SR75bn ($20bn).

After completion, the Kingdom Tower will rise up to more than one kilometre and will be the world's highest skyscraper.

It is very clear that the band of concrete on third floor is not a part of original plan. Probably they made some mistake and tried to correct it somehow. Also already constructed bottom part should look visually much better, especially for a building that will have almost a half a mile of additional concrete above. Currently it looks quite shoddy.

The 'bad' looking concrete is most probably where concrete floors will later be attached. It's a rough surface so that the concrete from the floors will stick to the concrete of the wall. (with connected rebar ofcourse)

You are correct, they are rebates with polystyrene as the blockouts for monolithic connections into each floor. Once the table forms reach each level, the polystyrene is taken out by the steel fixers and steel rebars are screwed into the ferrules casted inside the rebates. This is common on all projects. There's nothing wrong with the construction quality so far. Only those without construction knowledge will think this is 'shoddy' construction.

Yes it looks good, but the fact is, that this looks extremely like Downtown Dubai: The tallest tower in the world with a little park around it and in front of a lake with Fountains.
At the lake there are low-rises, high-rises, a supertall and (probably) a mall.
=Just like Dubai
I hoped for a totally different landscape around the tower....
Downtown Dubai will always be my favourite, especially when I think of all those new upcoming projects like the Opera House District, The Address SkyView and Burj Vista and The Dubai Mall Extension,
and of course the existing buildings like Burj Khalifa

Lol **** the design, a 1000m+ pile of shit would be impressive as it is.

In any way this tower is heading to become the 8th world wonder, i dont see anything taller rising in this century.

That's a rather naive belief, considering the century is barely 15 years old. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a mile high tower break ground by 2030.

[QUOTE=keber;120286025]... Probably they made some mistake and tried to correct it somehow. Also already constructed bottom part should look visually much better, especially for a building that will have almost a half a mile of additional concrete above. QUOTE]

Also on Burj Khalifa, several corrections to the vertical concrete had to be made, even on much higher levels.
So, don't worry.

Also, the concrete does not look worse or better than Burj Khalifa or other large structures.
The concrete quality can not be judged from one or two overview pictures like these.

Remember that from each batch of concrete, samples are taken and tested.
Temperature, humidity, etc. at the building site are closely monitored.
Dimensions of the building, inclination of the building, etc. are closely watched with lasers and GPS.
So again: don't worry about the concrete, or about KT in general.

Let it be built, and enjoy this forum in the coming years...
