No, it'll take at least until 2019 if not 2020 in my opinion.

The Burj Dubai took at least five years from foundation to topping out and then another one to two years for inside work to be done. If this tower is suppose to be even taller than it will take at least six to seven years to be topped out.

Yeah but this was 5 years ago probably now the workers have better tools and they could take similar time as the burj
Just probably

KT is easier to build because of its design, i'm sure it'll be topped out in 4 to 5 years. 7 years is far too long just to top out. Also Adrian Smith said in an interview Kingdom Tower can be build faster than Burj Khalifa.

And the KT has less square metres than burj Khalifa (I think ) and the 1WTC at least the inside work will be less

Burj was built during the financial crisis

Keep in mind from shots that Fury, Fayzoon, Imre and others posted back of the Burj that once the foundation was in place, the bulk of the concrete construction was completed after about two years.

In other words, yes this tower will take 5-7 years to build, but that's from the design and planning phase. If some of it was already started conceptually around the time that the Burj was completed, then give or take a year to do the foundation alone, we're well along now.

2-3 years of planning (presumed), a year and a half for piling and foundation, now the about two years of concrete work structurally, and a year to two to do interiors and be occupied thus = 7-8 years.

Now that the core is moving upward, even if we gauge a floor and a half a week, that's about 80 floors by next Christmas, 160+ by the year after, or if speed increases, perhaps a structural top out in under two years' time.

I'd imagine some public opening of parts of the tower in late 2017 or early 2018, with it fully open by end of 2018 or early 2019.

It's a piece of art in many ways. The speed of it being built, the height, the design, the location... All of these perspectives show us that this tower is engineering and construction at its finest.

Hats of everyone and behold the Kingdom Tower!

Can someone explain the gaps in-between the core and the wings of the building, I don't remember seeing that on Burj.

This is a guess, so someone please chime in if you have more information:

I would guess that the wings and the core will be joined with steel to allow for flexibility. Since the building is so tall, there will be a ton of lateral stress from wind. The steel "tendons" (for lack of a better word) will let the building bend and flex, reducing the damage that wind can do to the more inflexible concrete sections.
