I was at an open house at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design on Tuesday and I met somebody who works for AS+GG as an interior designer! She designed some of the Kingdom Tower interiors! I asked if she could send me designs, but she said no.

170 occupied floors, everything above doesn't count in the official statistics ( CTBUH for example ).

Looking to posting #10825, Liebherr made the crane design for a tower height of 1007 m.

The related procedure for erecting and dismantling the cranes at such heights is far from "standard", and cannot be changed easily during the building process, when another final height would be decided.

Therefore, I think it is not likely that the height will change much from 1007 m.
10 or 20 m more would still be no problem (BK changed from 818 to 828 m. final height), but 100 m more seems not realistic.

Hallo,

The Liebherr crane 357 HC-L 18/32 is constructed for a hook heights up to 1,100 m and empty hook speeds of up to 240 m/min.

I think than is a building height from 1100m no problem!!!

Gruß

Wolfgang

170 floors +...and the floors above?
Surely there will be some sort of facility or engeneering floors. But i don`t think the whole floors above will be needed for this.
And than? Empty floors?

I'd imagine it very similar to the upper structural floors of the Burj. The structural elements may have the height of one or more floors in measurement, but since there's no landing, nor floor for that matter, they're not usable. It's just explained in floors since it's generally easier for people to understand that. A spire of 72 floors vs say, a spire of 720 feet or 220 meters. Purely six of one and half a dozen of another / word choice.

The top could very well be similar to the insides of oil rigs, where there's the concrete wall, center column supporting structure, and a single stair or two and that's it. For the sheer height, I wouldn't be surprised if a small service elevator was installed but who knows.

That`s a good comparison! Perhaps you are right with the suggestions about the floors are a better way for people to deal with the hight.
Interesting is also that the spire in this case will made out of concrete. The Burjs spire was as far as i remenber most steel structure.

Musk should pitch his hyperloop to the companies behind Kingdom City. Station near the tower going to Qatar. I consider it way more likely that Jeddah and Qatar are willing to invest moneywize. Don't know politically and such.

How futuristic would it be to arrive with 1200km/h at Kingdom Tower

I am getting weak in my knees just thinking about the experience the crane operator will be having, when looking out the front window of the cab. I cant even begin to imagine what it would feel like, to climb up into that crane when its near the top. Talk about testicles of steel!!

This video clip of BD may give some pre-excitement:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDssjgRw450

Here, BD was about 650 m. high (concrete part 600 m. plus approx. 50 m. of the steel spire).
Imagine the highest KT crane will be at approx. 1010 m. (or even higher, as some on this forum suggest...).

OMFG! After taking a good look at the cab on that crane, I just realized that the glass in front of the operator is very close and actually starts at their feet. It must feel like you could fall right through that if you lean too far, although I am sure that glass is seriously strong and your probably could not fall through even if you tried. The lift ride going up the side of the building that high is scary enough, and then having to get out at over 2000 feet high, and then having to climb what looks like another 80-100 feet or so just to get to the base of the crane, and then having to climb up the frame to the cab.

One thing I never saw despite this, were the portable bathrooms, and I watched the BK since it was a hole in the sand. Did they have anything like that when constructing the BK?

I am pretty sure the KT is going to be very similar. The foundation seems like its about the same size; maybe in some pics I noticed it seemed a little smaller but its probably because of the outside tapering wall on the wings. I think this will be even more interesting to watch though, because its concrete all the way up.
