The ESB has useless space above the 86st floor. The WTC has useless space above 1,350 ft to 1,776 ft. There are a myriad of super tall buildings with useless space. Most people posting on the internet today are clueless .

is't raining in Jeddah ???......... That's interesting, it looks like.

If the plan by September 2015 is to have the core up to the 47th floor, we should have by December 2015 the core up to the 60th floor ?

Look at this picture and imagine if the Abraj al Bait rose in proportion to its HUGE base... How tall would it be? (I know it it probably composed of a few separate buildings)

Abraj al Bait is indeed a collection of buildings/towers.
The Clock Tower Hotel itself has a "base" which is comparable to other supertalls in the row.

hard to say how long all of these buildings will take though. at least a few will probably be delayed by a few years.

just a reminder how a prognosis like that turns out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9R-b3JmOIAo

this video is from 2011 and shows the tallest 15 buildings of 2015.

Ping An IFC is Delayed
Pentominium went On Hold
Agaoglu Tower Cancelled

that makes three wrong predictions although many of the buildings in that top 15 were already built by that time.

It is a really crazy time with all these towers U/C, I just say don't be too certain with their finishing dates

I would agree with this if you said theory instead of hypothesis. What you describe here is a theory, not a hypothesis. Let me explain the difference:

Quote:
A hypothesis is either a suggested explanation for an observable phenomenon, or a reasoned prediction of a possible causal correlation among multiple phenomena. In science, a theory is a tested, well-substantiated, unifying explanation for a set of verified, proven factors. A theory is always backed by evidence; a hypothesis is only a suggested possible outcome, and is testable and falsifiable.
To put the long story short, a theory is an answer, a hypothesis is a question. You need evidence to answer a question, but you don't need evidence to ask a question. The very definition of a question is that by asking it you want to gather evidence in order to reach an answer

Quote:
They absolutely can, and they should, if they have no real science behind them. All they do is misrepresent information, create false dilemmas, and even downright lie. They add nothing scientific at all.
Look how popular that horrific show "Ancient Aliens" is, dumbing down its viewers with misinformation debunkable in a 5 second Google search.
Again I would agree with you if you were talking about a subject which has no science behind it. The problem is, the ancient alien hypothesis has science behind it. As I explained earlier, both space travel and extraterrestrial life are scientificaly accepted concepts. There is nothing unscientific about this hypothesis. Of course that doesn't make it a valid theory, but it does make it a valid hypothesis

Quote:
Having sex with a grey alien in outer space is also scientifically feasible. So is a teapot floating around Jupiter. The evidence, however, is not there to prove these things, and until it is found they should not even be suggested. The facts speak for themselves, and they lead to the conclusion. It is not the other way around.
In other words, you propose a circle - you need an answer to ask a question, but you need to ask a question in order to get an answer - a perfect circle which scientific bureaucrats use to justify them doing absolutely no research at all and just sitting in their office and drinkijng coffee the whole day. It's sad that these bureaucrats actually managed to convince some people that their bureaucracy is true science

To join the discussion this was my first book (yeah book...i think i hadn't internet at this time...) about skyscapers.

Willis tower was the highest building...there was a top 100 list at the end of the book...compared to the current list it's sooo cute
The term "supertalls" didn't even exist...
And this was about 1996.
Today especially in asia a 400m+ building isn't a big deal, astonishing how much can change so fast

Maybe one day "hypertalls" will become commonplace!

Supertall = 300m+
Megatall = 600m+
Hypertall = 900m+
