Thanks. Wonder if they looking for the best spot for the tower, or just doing standard tests for whole project. But I guess there won't be to much tall towers except the Kingdom tower, most of them looks like lowrises actually..

Fixed.
I bet most of these towers in the strip right behind it would be supertalls.

Do not bet, calculate So, based on the plan posted by Rody and considering that the Kingdom Tower will be 1000m, then the next tallest tower is around 180m.

But of course this plan doesn't has to be 100% final/correct so who knows for sure...

according on the budget of the project , i think it will be there more than one super tallest
also the budget keep growing up and the investors keep joining
in the beginning there was only alwaleed with $ 13b budget, then as rody said its turn out to $27b with tow more owners

thats only in the beginning with out starting the constriction , so i guess if they start the constriction , the budget , plans and owners would be different

so i guess this project needs more time
but pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeases not too loooooong

Of course the plan isn't final, especially for the tower itself, I doubt they'll settle for that unimaginative porcupine spike as a final design.

there are other supertalls in the project

but the JKT is too tall which makes them like low rise

attempt:

i don't think this is the final prop, i want to see sky bridges, sky gardens. make it an icon

but how tall is this here:

PS: all pics were taken last year.. its not new

Yeah, I've seen that long time ago. I think I've seen every avaible materials about mile high tower/kingdom tower and I'm quite sure none of them were/are final. Especialy since even Kingdom Tower itself still doesn't have its design. So its even more pointless to speculate about additional towers. Lets hope we will be "flooded" whith news soon

Hi Drone.
Here Here - well said.

As for the design as it is depicted ...
If it does end up being close to the SOM vision it would be great IMO.

Maybe this time they will decide something, and btw they still keep reapeating this 1.1km height. Since they had to talk with developer, I think this is current height for the tower.

New bids for 1.1km-high tower
Angela Giuffrida
Last Updated: July 29. 2010 9:16PM UAE / July 29. 2010 5:16PM GMT
Contractors aiming to build what could become the tallest tower in the world have been asked to resubmit their bids after design changes were made.

At least two contenders will place new offers for the 1.1km-high Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia next month, making it the third time in a year the project has been re-tendered.

Six Construct, a Belgian companythat helped to build Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest tower in the world, is bidding for the contract in partnership with El Seif Engineering Contracting, a Saudi Arabian company.

Saudi Bin Laden Group, one of the biggest construction companies in the region, is also bidding for the project, which is in Jeddah.

A senior member of staff at one of the contenders, who asked not to be named, said the size of the building’s podium had been reduced.

“They’re still going for the same height though … A new offer has to be submitted in the second half of August.”

The tower would eclipse the 818-metre high Burj Khalifa. It is being planned by Kingdom Holding, the business conglomerate owned by the Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The tower has been mooted for a number of years although progress has been slow, prompting speculation on whether it would see the light of day.

It is designed to form part of Kingdom City, a development with an estimated construction cost of US$26.6 billion (Dh97.7bn).

Bids were originally placed last summer but contractors were later asked to revise their prices and resubmit their offers in April because of the financial crisis and subsequent fall in construction costs.

The UAE’s Arabtec Construction and its South Korean partner, Samsung, which also helped build Burj Khalifa, initially made an offer for the project but pulled out earlier this year due to “various reasons associated with the requirements”, Tom Barry, the chief executive of Arabtec Construction, said in April.

Saudi Oger, a major Saudi contractor, placed a bid in April but it is unclear if the company is still vying for the project. The company’s vice president Ali Kolaghassi could not be reached for comment yesterday.
