Al Waleed may have good taste, But he's freaking slow! I'm ready to walk too Smith's office and demand to see the design. He's only 30 mins away from me

I wonder if itīs possible, in the future as material and building technique evolve, that we will see a mile high tower. Iīm 37 years old, I wonder if Iīm ever gonna experience that kind of a building in my lifetime. The Nobel prize in physics, went this year to Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov for their work on isolating Graphene, a one atom thick layer of carbon. I heard on the radio that a thread made of graphene that is one millimeter thick should be able to hold a load of 14 tons...... So, lets not lose our hope. But then of course there are other aspects to consider.... For example if itīs ecologically and economically justifiable?

It's a long way from atom to towers, but as we develop I think that isn't too impossible..

i think in the next 40 to 50 years there will be more than one towers like that. i think by that time we may have more than 100 towers over 500m high

Anyone been to or even inside Burj Khalifa? I was once on the second store of the Eiffel tower (115.75 meters), and already at that height I could feel it in my stomach...... Ha ha ha! Maybe the wind and that there are no windows made it a larger sensation. It was a long cue to get to the third floor and I didnīt have the time to wait that long. :-(

Good one Fury.

Well Smith is having a Lecture next month called - "Towards the Zero-Energy City"
And I plan on attending it. So maybe I could get him One-on-one after the lecture. But hopefully the design is released by that time.

Construction of piles and barrettes for the Kingdom Tower

08/05/2010

We have just won our first contract in Saudi Arabia. It concerns a preliminary trial involving two piles and two barrettes, at depths of 45 and 75 m, for the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah (this tower will be taller than the tallest building in the world: The Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai).

These piles and barrettes have been fitted with Osterberg cells that are already being used on the test barrettes for the Nakheel Tall Tower (Dubai) and the Gazprom Tower (Saint-Petersburg).

Fantastic. I can't wait to see the BK thread in the Supertall forum replaced with the Kingdom Tower.

So far they're doing nothing that hasn't been done for the Nakheel Harbour Tower, either.
