I can't resist from giving my opinion, first I have to say that I love the middle east and I'd like to visit it , but what you can't deny is that talking about society (the women rokle in society, gay rights...) The middle east is far behind from the west, I don't wanna offend anyone or say that everyone there is like that but I think it's the truth

If they haven't managed to complete the tower before the current economic downturn, it will be damn difficult to finish it now! The time of lavish abundance for oil-dependent countries has ended once and for all. Sad, but true.

Nothing illustrates the sadness of this project than a picture like this. And I am not (only) speaking about the poor aesthetics. Sustainability and smart use of scarce resources are not in the dictionary of the initiators of this project.

And generally I am a supporter of high rises...

In this project they started all the way around. Usually they start with small (the other buildings around this one) to get a sense of the region and demand and then build the master piece. They started with the masterpiece.. so the bonus here is that we don't have to wait that long to see what we all wanted to see.. an 1 Km tower! Can't complain about that. And I'm also curious to see how things work out by choosing this "inverse" path.. so really.. for me it's a win-win situation.

I agree, and it is their own doing. Bring the price of oil back up a little bit and the whole world will be better off for it. I certainly don't want to see $110+/bbl oil, but $75 would do us much better overall.

If you're talking about the parts that are above the core and wings, Those are the form works for the concrete.

8 a.m. on Saturday, July 23rd.

From the earlier shot I posted from 3 days ago - no upward progress on the core or on the wings.

One interesting difference - over the top of the right wing, it looks like there are now 2 cranes, where 3 days ago there was only one. (I see now it would be the 3rd wing`s tower crane)
