Do you think they will try and compete with Dubai to make sure this will be the world tallest or just remain with there orginal plans?

I think they should be proud either way. It will be a massive landmark for Jeddah and a huge credit for the country!

No, not likely a to change the height. They started out with a 1,600 Meter High Design but decided on 1,000 meters.

in which terms? in effieciency certainly not, in energy efficiency and other aspects Shanghai tower if you search for a megatall superseeds JT by far...
though there are still much more efficient supertalls or especially smaller skyscrapers...

maybe the concrete at the base and the height are futuristic, and parts of the design, but ultimately most state of the art and newest materials are installed in smaller buildings

even a fusion reactor as ITER (2040-50ies) wouldn't count as being futuristic, if you count things that have been invented since decades, because they were built since the 70ies, but not in that scale before - you see you first have to define your sense of futurism, but certainly it counts as being iconic and LOOKING futuristic - the materials and technique certainly existed before and a higher tower would be possible - the futurism could come through the never been achieved construction at such heights and custom construction methods and its "little inventions"

This tower won't exict without allowing tourism openly in the country (with all this height it can't be for Saudis only, maybe only in Jeddah or some other cities as well) and there is no way tourism will be allowed without changing the laws and the system

This might be the huge change that the tower will make ...

The tower has absolutely nothing to do with tourism. The tower is being built because al-Waleed wants to own the WTB, and because the landowning shareholders like Samual Bakhsh want to monetise their land.

Tourists are not going to buy apartments at JT and they're not going to drive footfall at the mall. It's all targeted at the local and GCC market.

lets keep a positive outlook and please let us not drag this subject too long, politics isn't the subject here. I really hope to see this great tower someday so hopefully rules will be tweaked to make it easier

Very similar to the overall dimensions of Jeddah Tower, only with tiers. Every tier is set 3m off the previous one, with 4m in the middle (evolving tiers), which creates dozens of terraces up to 100sq.m each - for the elite penthouses. The glass fencing on the terraces is 2.9m tall - for the safety measures, like in BK.

The original picture is 3936x1920pix (click to view).

Seeing the most recent pics reminds me of a modern equivalent of a pyramid, except this one will have people living in it. Any mausoleum incorporated into the foundations!? The isolated scale of this is both impressive and scary.

Yes, but also the crane must be able to reach it.
The crane is already present, not easy to change it if necessary.

A higher steel spire will mean a higher wind load, on the point where it is anchored to the concrete.
This would mean a re-design of the anchoring, if possible at all.

A spire 10-20 m higher would be possible.
But in my estimate, 100-200 m is not a realistic option.
