So when this tower is on hold this thread turns into a a human rights debate forum! Stop feeding out of topic posts guys ... because when you reply to them you not only dragging the unrelated subject but you are giving it more credibility as well.

Oil prices decreased dramatically --> Saudi Arabia in a difficult economic situation --> struggles in construction of the Jeddah Tower

That would be my explanation on why the construction seems to be on hold these days

Possibly, not sure who developer is and their property forecasts and what oil prices have to do with it in the long term? But my guess is it seems the price of copper has gone up 10% over the past 4 months. So it could be there is a surge in price in construction materials costs and that will surely slow a project down! These things are built on a budget and something on this scale, small changes have major impacts for a developer

Above 550m is not practical, and it significantly increases the costs of design, construction, maintenance etc. Occupied floors above 550m is definitely too high.

The reason oil prices decreased is because of Saudi Arabia in the first place.

As long someone is willing to pay for it, there are reasons to build higher and higher. It's only not feasable if the surge in price can't be afforded by the future buyer.

Looks pretty small in the pictures yet it is already taller than almost ALL buildings in La Defense. %)

I'm afraid you are wrong.

it might not be feasible if the structure is not able to support itself.

This tower basically starts on virgin land, there is nothing but a foundation that they have to build and start the superstructure instantly.

Also one would assume from a country like KSA, that they wanna rush things to get the tallest building crown ASAP, and claim the amazing speed at which it was build. So it does not make sense at all to say "good things need time" in case of this project, but that maybe something isn´t going the way they anticipated them to go. Because i don´t see any logical reason for them to go at a rate of aproximatly 1,6 floors a month at all.
I was looking at the time to build it after they started up, it reached ground level in 2010, but was not complete till 2014. Number 3 was halted for several years till they signed a tenant. Nobody wants great big empty developments.

Looking at the previous pages, JT rising above ground in sep 2014 and now it reach 230m, with the current progress, this tower could hardly Completed before 2021.

These two words at the beginning and the end of almost any phrase can make it totally hilarious in multiple senses at a time
