Don't you think that they might cut up the third wing and let the core has its own shape up there? (it can even be thin and straight without a shape)

This actually may increase the height with the same weight ..

At this stage, they can't be tiasding it in order to win all the titles. Because Emaar must've covered all the chances while laying down their plans.

I was thinking like this but, why all this slowness ?? That's why I think that they want to let the new tower in Dubai finish first. By the way, they both are masterpieces in the highest structure competition but, this one is much more interesting because it is a 1000 m+ building and not a only structure with few floors

so this will remain on hold till 2020 for them to figure out the height of the tower in Dubai, you cant be serious!? Anyways I am sure Emaar made sure the tower in dubai will be so tall that this one cannot, no matter how tall they try to make it go, ever surpass it.

Lets not forget this one is a copy of Burj Khalifa which gives emaar first hand experience on how tall such a structure can reach. The slowness of the construction worries me, if they really wanna be the tallest then they should double the speed of construction for it to finish before Dubai's tower to claim the title of tallest structure for some time before they finish THE TOWER and not cut the speed of construction to a snail pace.

so they're taking their time with the construction

Even if there is a plan for a height increase, how would you manage it design-wise? The Jeddah Tower tapers slowly in a pyramidal shape with a certain angle.
They would have to change the angle of the sidewall's slope in order to reach higher, and that would ruin the design completely since they have already completely the lower portion of the tower.

Look at my post above I said that they might cut the three wings and this way the core might be different

Let's wait till 2020 I know it's so far

That year when 2 towers with 1000 meters height be closed to finish

I suppose, but is it really worth it?

I remember when developers constructed buildings in order to make money.

But,Jeddah Tower will anyway be the tallest building, because The Tower is a supported-tower , 'cause less than 50% of the building is not occupaible(http://skyscrapercenter.com/building...r/23572)

Very slow progress judging by the most recent update. Hopefully now the contractor issues have been resolved things will get a move on. Let's hope it can break the 300m barrier this month as Ramadan is coming up which will probably affect progress the following month.

Actually there's a reason why such tall buildings have their cladding start so(relatively) late.

1. You always want cladding to be installed as late as possible due to risks from construction, as well as to make the building properly weather tight. Ideally you want the cladding and the external structure to complete at the same time.
2. Cladding is usually done by a different contractor in a different package, and this usually takes much less time than the building of the structure. No window supplier would be happy to slow their own pace and install panels 1 floor per week just to match the pace of the structural contractor, when they can easily cover a floor a day.

so, to reach the above two goals, they would get the window contractor to come in just before the structure is done. For smaller buildings, you don't see the difference that much, but for tall tall buildings like this, it would seem forever before the windows start coming in.

Lol yes, build a mega tower in the middle of nowhere...

These Saudis are really overcompensating for something. Didn't they get the memo? People stopped caring about the world's tallest building a long time ago.

Why don't they dump this money into improving the quality of living in their countries instead?

Well the thing is the highest floor on this will be around 670 meters right? So they cannot increase the height to over 1340 meters as it would then become a tower since less than 50% of the structure will be inhabitable. So, I guess this will become the Worlds Tallest Builidng upon completion but the Tallest Structure will most likely be The Tower in Dubai (since that will probably be in the 1100 to 1300 meter range.) This reminds me of the Bank of Manhattan vs Chrysler Building race!

It has to be between floors 73-84th as they are at the 50% of the building.

With this pace, the cladding cannot be started now as it would be outdated at the end of the construction.
