Another option could be expanding Trenton Airport (TTN) further south in New Jersey and act as an in-between airport between Philly and NYC... especially that Frontier is now operating some flights out of it. And by the way, there's also Westchester County as well (HPN) that could be used to bolster the LCC market too. The main problem: can all of those airports be adequately served by bus and rail, especially with concerns of NIMBY-ism the further away you go from the Five Boroughs?

Well Long Island Islip (ISP) and Trenton (TTN) both have railway lines located nearby so having them served by a dedicated rail link isn't out of the question (as a matter of fact the LIRR Ronkonkoma Station is located just on the other side of the airport from the terminal). Westchester Airport (HPN) and Stewart (SWF) would be much harder to serve via rail since the airport isn't located near any existing rail lines, plus Westchester Airport is located close to some very wealthy neighborhoods so NIMBY interests would present a huge obstacle as well.

How about an Airport Express link through the LIRR between Ronkonkoma and Jamaica Stations, in which it will be connected to points beyond Jamaica (west to Manhattan, east to other lines within the network)? Or maybe create a stub line to directly connect Islip with the rest of the network and provide Airport Express services from there? The bigger challenge for the proposal would be quadruple-tracking since I believe most of the trackage for the Ronkonkoma Branch is double-tracked, and a dedicated line for the Airport Express would mean some stations along the line will be skipped to provide an express service between the two points and allow quicker journeys for passengers traveling to Islip. Perhaps, with the stub line option, it will allow services on the Ronkonkoma Branch to be increased significantly to allow airport travelers an alternative to JFK, LGA, and EWR, and it may be the first-ever direct LIRR service to an airport (not via AirTrain).

Hard to say I have heard that the main trunk line of the LIRR is at capacity right now so having a direct service bypassing the other stations may not be possible (and would probably be politically unpopular as well) without adding a third or even a fourth track. In reality though it all depends on which course of action the PANYNJ, LIRR, or the New York state government decides to take in regards to improving transit access to Islip.

Yesterday was a real mess at JFK. With 1 runway close for construction, plus bad weather ( rain/wind direction) they end up running 1 (one) runway configuration! Things got very ugly.

Delays up to 7 hours. Numerous airlines were rerouted to BOS. EWR, and IAD. Bunch of flights were cancelled or delays. Yikes...

What about planespotting in New York airports? Is it safe to taking pictures of approaching aircrafts in nearby areas?

I was wondering about the terminal colors at JFK, and think some of the colors don't seem to make any sense. While they have been in place since the airport opened, I personally think the colors should be assigned more based on the airline. Here is how I would do it.
  • Terminal 1 - Green (no change) - Green is one of Alitalia's main colors.
  • Terminal 4 - Pink - Delta has a partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and has a pink Boeing 767-400.
  • Terminal 5 - Blue - Obviously blue would make sense for Terminal 5 because JetBlue is the primary tenant.
  • Terminal 7 - Yellow - Since my color scheme would replace Yellow with Blue for Terminal 5, this frees up Yellow to be used for Terminal 7, replacing Orange.
  • Terminal 8 - Red (no change) - Red is one of American Airlines' primary colors.

I intentionally left out Terminal 2 because it is planned for closure in the future.

The thing EWR needs the most: a cell phone lot.

I am so tired of driving loops when picking up my wife or someone, just have a short limit lot that someone can wait in for 15 min, tow anyone there after like 2am.

Would be a huge solution to all the traffic into the terminals and people hogging the pickup curb for ages, or trying to kill me to slam on the brakes to wait on the side of I9.

There is a cell phone lot, the issue is that its terribly located. Its right next to P1.

LaGuardia is getting the boot.

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2015/07/...ardia-airport/

Quote:
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday introduced a plan to redesign and rebuild LaGuardia Airport, replacing the cramped, outdated hub with a unified terminal that will have more than double the space.

“LaGuardia is ‘un-New York,'” Cuomo said. “LaGuardia is slow, it’s dated, it is a terrible front-door entrance way to New York. It is a lost opportunity. It is almost universally decried as a poor representation of a an airport, let alone a New York airport.”

He said the current airport is a collection of cramped terminals with high volume and low ceilings.

Vice President Joe Biden, who was at the event Monday, said last year that if he blindfolded someone and took him to LaGuardia, he’d think he was in “some Third World country.”

“This is the greatest city in the world,” Biden said Monday. “It requires a 21st Century infrastructure.”

The first part of the plan will begin next year and cost $4 billion, half from private funding, Cuomo said. Delta Air Lines is a partner in the new terminal.
