KUWAIT: KEO International ConsultantsKEO International Consultants were officially notified that their design entry has lead to being awarded the prestigious headquarters for the Kuwait Investment AuthorityKuwait Investment Authority (KIAKIA). The Kuwait Investment AuthorityKuwait Investment Authority (KIAKIA) is Kuwait's government investment arm, estimated to hold in excess of $200 billion of assets, and is reportedly one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world.

KEOKEO won the award to design the KIAKIA Headquarter Building Complex from a field of six highly acclaimed design firms from Europe and the United States. The list included NORR, WS Atkins, Cambridge 7, Hamzah & Yeang and Fentress Architects. KEOKEO's design team was lead by Principal Designer, Raj Patel, who described the design as an opportunity to reflect the strength, stability, dynamism and futuristic outlook of the Kuwait Investment AuthorityKuwait Investment Authority. KIAKIA clearly expressed their goals for their building to be a state of the art facility, but also stressed the importance that it was to be innovative, functional, flexible and have a pleasant working environment.

KEOKEO's winning design created a 220-meter iconic tower lifted 6 floors above the ground with a podium structure housing all public facilities including an auditorium, that slips through the base of the tower. The podium structure inspiration is drawn from the traditional form of the dhow, representing Kuwait's link and heritage to the past, while the tower manifests its soaring global presence into the future.

The design also incorporates sustainable design elements including wind turbines and photovoltaic panels meeting KIAKIA's brief of creating an efficient building, a benchmark for future towers in the region. The estimated $200m building with over 130,000 m2 of area will be built on a site located in the heart of Kuwait City. Construction is expected to begin by early 2009.

KEO International ConsultantsKEO International Consultants is one of the world's leading and fastest growing international full-service consultancy firms. Founded in 1964, the firm has emerged as a dynamic leader in design, engineering and project management. Kuwait Investment Authority awards HQ design to KEO International Consultants

KEO International Consultants design for the prestigious headquarters for the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) has been given the go ahead. KEO’s winning design created a 220 meter iconic tower lifted 6 floors above the ground with a podium structure housing all public facilities including an auditorium, that slips through the base of the tower. The podium structure inspiration is drawn from the traditional form of the dhow, representing Kuwait’s link and heritage to the past, while the tower manifests its soaring global presence into the future.

The design also incorporates sustainable design elements including wind turbines and photovoltaic panels meeting KIA’s brief of creating an efficient building, a benchmark for future towers in the region. The estimated $200m building with over 130,000 m2 of area will be built on a site located in the heart of Kuwait City.

The KIA is Kuwait's government investment arm, estimated to hold in excess of $200 billion of assets, and is reportedly one of the largest Sovereign Wealth Funds in the World. KEO’s design team was lead by Principal Designer, Raj Patel, who described the design as an opportunity to reflect the strength, stability, dynamism and futuristic outlook of the Kuwait Investment Authority. KIA clearly expressed their goals for their building to be a state-of-the-art facility, but also stressed the importance that it was to be innovative, functional, flexible and have a pleasant working environment.

Construction is expected to begin by early 2009.

one of the rejected designs 70 floor tower by SSHIC & T.R. Hamzah & Yeang of Malaysia

In may 2007, SSH in association with T.R. Hamzah & Yeang of Malaysia entered a competition for the Kuwait Investment Authority ( KIA )Headquarters in Kuwait. The KIA building is designed with the concept that derives from a desert flower “cyranium” as a symbol of survival and progress in the harsh desert environment. The three petals of cyranium spiral 180 degrees to the top of the building, symbolizing Kuwait's development combining its culture, social fabric, and economy.

The building's ecological features reduce energy required and building running cost, therefore, reducing the negative impact on environment. The tower responds bio-climatically to the solar heat gain and wind rose as a passive mode design. Intermediate sky courts create micro climates cooled by the spillage of cool air from the internal floors. The vegetation provides a visually softer internal environment in addition to enhancing the bioclimatic of the development.

A main design feature is the exoskeleton structure which is expressed on the building facade. The continuous organic form of the building spirals from the vegetated landscaped podium up to the sky courts. The new KIA headquarters consists of a 70 storey tower with four levels of underground parking. The elegant and delicate structure whose strength and stability are obtained from intertwined building envelope are used as a part of the structural stabilization system.

The building will provide public and conference facilities in the first 6 floors and open office flexible spaces for 600 employees located in the 54 upper floors. The top of the building will be occupied by a luscious sky garden. Parking for 850 cars will be located in 4 basements.
