#Completed: The Crown (Mackay) - 11s/res

www.thecrown.com.au

This beauty is set to be the next mid-rise 'cab off the rank' in Mackay's revitalised CBD. It's located on River st, next door to other notable developments including The Pier Residences, Meridian and Leichardt on River.

It's 11 stories in height (as tall as MCC planning restrictions let you go), but only 43 units. They're big though, in fact it seems to mostly consist of 3 and 4 bedroom apartments. It has sweeping views over the historic Leichardt tree on the southern bank of the Pioneer River, looking north over mangroves and the Mackay Marina in the far distance. It's also on the doorstep of what is to become the Mackay Town square and Wharf precinct, an area desiginated for alfresco dining, entertainment and market activity.

Was originally told construction would commence in mid-May but nothing has happened thus far. Expecting it should be going ahead very soon however.

Here's the renders etc... enjoy.

This one was also in the brochure... "Do you come with the apartment?"

I really like the look of this one, and with a picture of a woman in a bikini, thats convincing enough for me to buy an apartment, haha.

See to much of that with the projects on the island.

That pic of the lady in the bikini looks like it was taken 60 years ago

I don't think bikinis existed back in the 40's... This was the only thing I could add to make this building more interesting given Rocky's new Centrepoint development and Mackay's tough-as-nails height restrictions

On the right-hand side wall (or the western side), a 10 storey complex is going up called Leichardt on River that will hide that white facade. It's been left intentionally blank as a green empty field in the 4th render at the start of this thread.

2008 update: Nothing! In fact, no movement on this site for 12 months now (incl. the fence) expect for the Hadcorp sign indicating they have the building contract, which I guess in itself is encouraging .

Can one of the moderators change the status of this one to UC please... It's finally underway. Not sure what that drilling rig is for? You can see the crane for Latitude in the distance. The development of Crown is going to coincide with the construction of the MCC's Bluewater Quay that will encompass the eastern end of River st. This whole st frontage should become a hive of activity over the next 3 - 4 months.

From River st

All the equipment and material for Crown is currently residing on the Leichardt on River site.

Brisbane st

Crown is surfing ahead, in fact it's not too far behind Latitude in terms of progress, and it's only been about 3-4 months. River St is blocked off because of the Bluewater Quay project so unfortunately this closest I can get to the site is from Brisbane st.

Check out the little crane for this one, anyone know what you call this type?? Surprised they don't have something bigger like a Favco or something for a building of this scale and height.

Are you referring to Leichardt on River? There is a separate thread for it here. I'd say it's not going anywhere in the meantime as a lot of the construction equipment (i.e. site office, skip bins, steel beams etc) for The Crown currently occupies its area. The two developers/ builders must have some sort of 'understanding'.

Are you based in Mackay Joe? Would gladly appreciate updates of your own that you could add to the forum, if you're able. Cheers

Sure can add to forum as I have family in Mackay, and go there regularly. Amazing the level of change over the last few years, and promises to be an even more changed city over the next few years. Watching with great interest.

Here's an update of the Bluewater Quay's progress, however if you look closely there are a few other things to point out:

- The Crown looks to be up to the 3rd floor? (left of the picture)
- In the distance, you can see that Lanai's crane is clearly down and the scaffolding has been removed!

I arrive in Mackay tomorrow for the weekend so I hope to have a suite of updates for all projects in the CBD and surrounds.

The Crown is now approaching the 4th level, or there abouts (left side of this shot). According to the development website, about 66% of the apartments have been sold.

Another little update, The Crown in now approaching the 5th level so nearly half way. I've noticed that the walls seem to have already been painted... is this typical so early in a building's rise? It's got another 6 floors to go yet.

Meanwhile, the Bluewater Quay continues to make progress, I would say the entire site now looks to have been raised and levelled in preparation for surface-tiling and the new boardwalk & jettys along the shore. They also got rid of the overhead powerlines, thank christ!

Both developments (The Crown and the Bluewater Quay) continuing to inch their way forwards. I'd say the crown looks as though it's about to go on to the 6th floor??

Well I'm no expert on judging site progress, but I would say they've reached the 6th floor and are now going for the 7th? With Lanai basically finished leading into Christmas, this will be the next one complete in the CBD.

The Bluewater Quay is still chugging along as well. Thanks again to the Mackay Regional Council for the update shots.
