The motorway runs east of E45 to the town of Sønderborg and it runs through other multiple cities

The Storebælt Bridge wasn't completed until 1998, no less than 41 years after the first motorway connections on either side were constructed.

Is there a particular reason for this? Was the Great Belt Bridge (Storebælt) already planned in the 1950's? Or were these early sections just places where traffic could queue before the ferry at peak days?

It's interesting, because these seemingly low-importance sections (at that time) were opened only one year after the first motorway in Denmark.

I visualized it here:
Chris, the reason for this is that the car ferry link between Halsskov and Knudshoved was established at that time. Both harbours and motorway stretches were built for this ferry link. Before 1957 cars and trains shared the railway ferry link between nearby Korsør and Nyborg - which caused a serious bottleneck in sommer weekends etc. So between 1957 and the opening of the Great Belt Bridge & Tunnel there were separate ferry links with separate sets of harbours for trains and cars respectively.

A video of the oldest motorway in Denmark, E47 from Copenhagen to Helsingør. It opened in 1956.

Traffic fatalities on Danish motorways. I underlined when the speed limit was raised from 110 to 130 km/h

So, basically it shows that speed limit increase had no adverse effect on motorway safety?

Looking at these figures, it even reduces accidents. This explains the sudden rise in speeds limits in several European countries and USA states... The UK should follow this example, I find 70 mph too slow for a country with a high volume of traffic. Raising the speed limit will encourage traffic to spread more easily, benefiting the free flow and clearer situations. To my opinion anyway...

It is going to be a "2+1" road without emergency lanes and center barrier

Correct me if i'm wrong but i have seen the last week work on the E22 Amagermotervejen with a new system for rain water. I think the autorities are not amused of overfloud with water the last weeks there.

(My english is not perfect, hopefully you understand it!)

I almost forgot I got some footage of the old Storstrøm Bridge. It opened in 1937. Probably one of the earlier island-connecting bridges in the country.

The old Lillebæltsbroen (Little Belt Bridge) from 1935 is older, and that bridge is a very important island-connecting bridge in Denmark. The bridge has a road and the railway line from Jutland to Funen. All of the trains from Jutland to Funen still going over that bridge. But in 1970 the opened the new Lillebæltsbroen (Little Belt Bridge) with a motorway. So most of the road traffic from Jutland to Funen are going over the motorway bridge from 1970. A lot of traffic from Germany to Sweden are using this motorway bridge. But the trains still using the old bridge from 1935.
