Primærrute 18 - Midtjyske Motorvej

Good news, the 8 kilometer missing link of Primærrute 18 - the central Jutland motorway - will open half a year ahead on schedule, on the appropriate date of 11-11-11.

That is great news. The entire Herning-Vejle motorway might not be the most busy, but this little strech between Brande and Give are very often quite jammed.

I have not been driving outside my country since 2007. But when I last time drove to DK I received this very clever booklet for free. It has maps and explanations about driving in DK. Traffic in DK is quite dense in some areas.

Emergency telephones are beeing removed from the autobahn in Germany, probably same thing is going to happen in DK ?

Sweden never had any motorway emergency phones at all.

There has been around 6000 calls /recent years. This is nothing compared to "millions" of calls from cellphones, but still enough to keep them runing according to relevant officials.......So far! Yes, they cost millions to keep them operational.

They are sometimes considering removing SOS phones in the Netherlands as well, the usage is 50 000 calls per year (on a total of 1.8 million calls), however they're still being installed on new motorways.

Thats not true! There was a few emergency phones at some motorways in Sweden. But they are all gone now. Some motorways had emergency phones like in Germany. Parts of the E6 was like that. Some motorways had a few but not that many like Germany. One example is the motorway from Uppsala to Stockholm.

But all of them are gone now.

We only use them in tunnels. I guess it makes sense to keep them, especially considering an emergency in longer tunnels.

Primary Route 18: Central Jutland Motorway

8 kilometers of the Midtjyske Motorway will open to traffic today. It's the section between Give and Brande, completing the high-standard link to Herning, even though the Brande bypass is still a two-lane road.

Just wondering why is it meeting up with E45 North of Vejle, looks like a detour on the map and it adds additional traffic to an already busy section of motorway:

I think they want to combine east-west and north-south traffic on that section between Give and Ølholm. So traffic from Århus / Horsens can also go quickly towards Billund (Legoland).

The E45 bridge across the Vejlefjord will be widened to 2x3 lanes (it already has long merging lanes across it).

It is a very regrettable decision made back in the 90'es, when nobody - at least not in Ministry of Transport - thought about capacity problems at Vejlefjord bridge. Traffic/AADT has gone from 23.000 in 1988 at Vejlefjord, when initial discussions on route for a motorway to Herning started, to 65.000 in 2010.

By the way - upgrade to motorway of the Barnde by-pass is under way. Construction will start early 2012 with completion in 2014. Other sections from Give towards Vejle will be completed in 2012 and 2013.

When this part of the Route 18 was planned, the Danish minister for transport was a local shoe-salesman from Vejle, and he naturally wanted as much traffic to pass his beloved Vejle, simply....

Not quite correct. The general routing of Route 18 was allready decided back in 1996 (including that it should end at E45 north of Vejle)http://www.vejdirektoratet.dk/publik.../chapter05.htm

At that time it was a Socialdemocrat - can't remember who - that was Minister of Transport. The shoe shop owner you mentioned only became Minister in 2001, but i am sure he was very happy for the decision made under one of his predecessors.

By the way it was announce a few days ago, that another motorway project will be finished ahead of schedule. It is the first section of the Frederikssund Motorway (will be Route 17) from Copenhagen towards Frederikssund. http://www.vejdirektoratet.dk/dokume...296801&nyhed=1

The section was initially planned to open i 2013, then it was changed in to 2012. Then the eastbound section was opened allready in August this year, and now it has been announced that the remaining westbound will open 18th December. Not bad.

WOW So much ahead of schedule is truly amazing. Especially knowing how many construction projects are always delayed in DK.

Keep up the good work!

Toll rates go up

The toll rates for both the Great Belt Bridge and the Oresund Bridge go up;

2011:
GBB: 220 DKK / € 29.60
OSB: 295 DKK / € 39.70

2012:
GBB: 230 DKK / € 30.90
OSB: 310 DKK / € 41.70

These rates are one-way. Frequent users of BroPass receive a 50 % discount, Øresund Commuters pay only € 4 if they pass 17 - 50 times per month.

Wow ! Very expensive rates ! Better carry a lot of people in the car !

Any plans to make a Helsingør (DK) - Helsingborg (S) bridge in the future ?

Tunnel has discussed a while, part of a high speed rail link from Stockholm to Köbenhavn, but it's been proposed to make road-tunnel aswell, it's likely to be even more expensive than Øresund connection to build tough, so i wouldn't count on the tolls being cheaper...

The new lanes on the Holbæk Motorway (Primary Route 21) between København and Roskilde will open almost a year ahead of schedule. There will be 2x3 lanes starting this weekend. They haven't finished all works yet, full completion is expected in October 2012, including a 2x4 section.
