This weekend a huge part of the expansion on the Køge Bugt Motorvejen took place.

One half of the bridge carrying the southbound lanes on the motorway over Taastrupvejen Between Solrød N and Solrød S was dismantled on order to expand the bridge.

It would have been more difficult to expand this bridge so they did this instead, the northbound lanes will be replaced in 2014.

This 60km/h Speed limit in Denmark is within Towns, although this road 313 is in a rural forrest area. Shouldnt it be 80km/h on this section ?

If 60km/h is a local speed limit, what does that mean ?

Perhaps specific conditions of the road warrant a lower speed limit? Just from the picture the road looks to be curvy and with low forward visibility due to trees close to the road.

The general speed limit in Denmark within build-up areas is 50 km/h. However any of the general speed limits (50 km/h in build up areas, 80 km/h on roads outside build-up areas (except motorways) and 130 km/h on Motorways, can be reduced for any given reason. In some cases upward exemptions on the general speed limit can also occure. Within in build-up areas there are numerous examples of speed limits of 60, 70 or even 80 km/h, and on other main roads outside build-up areas there is exemptions increasing the speed limit to 90 km/h on specific sections, especially on Motortrafikveje /expressways or on a few other roads.

On roads outside build-up areas (except motorways) there is only 80 km/h general speed limit? That's pretty low. Reminds me of Serbia, I hated those speed limits...

Quite many European countries apply the general speed limit of 80 km/h.

traffic data

The 2012 traffic volumes on Danish motorways and roads have been released;

http://vejdirektoratet.dk/DA/viden_o...afik-2012.aspx

Highest AADT is Køge Bugt Motorvejen (E20/E47/E55) at 112.700 vehicles per day. New Sønderborgmotorvejen (PR-8) carried 9.000 - 12.000 AADT in the first year of operation.

I wonder why they built the road that close to the town, effectively making it more difficult for the town to grow west.

Accident yesterday on the Holbaek-motorway. A truck ended up on the wrong side of the road. Maybe it's time to shield off the roadways. A truck on the wrong side of the road can cause a lot of havoc.

It cannot/will not be allowed to grow to west, as the town and the new by-pass is located at the edge of a plateau. Slagelse can only and plan only to grow to the east and to a lesser extent to the north and the south..

Interesting information. What is the basic reason for inability to grow beyond the edge? The difference in elevation does not seem to be very big in the Google Streetview imaginery. The ground is not suitable for construction?

Nature preservation (keeping open landscapes of particular interest) - and no need. The population growth in and around Slagelse is more or less zero. Copenhagen is the growth magnet in that part of the country.

My plan of the 3rd "Limfjordforbindelse" Leading east of Aalborg, instead of the "vejdirektoratet"s plan west..

The Aalborg case is interesting.

The 2012 AADT in the Limfjord Tunnel was 67.400 vehicles per day. The tunnel has six lanes. If you study the traffic volumes, you can clearly see a peak of traffic between the Vendsyssel interchange (E39/E45 split) and the spur into the city immediately south of the tunnel. Traffic volumes on E45 drop by 35% at this location, and are then stable at 40.600 - 48.300 vehicles per day through Aalborg.

Local traffic and peak hour traffic are the issues here. There isn't that much through traffic so traffic concentrates more during peak hour than elsewhere (for example around Vejle or Kolding). A major design flaw is northbound traffic from the city center to the northern suburbs. This traffic enters the tunnel on the left, but needs to exit on the right, with a fairly short time to cross the lanes.

I wonder if it has been considered to construct a third tube, for northbound traffic only, which will carry traffic from the city center to the first two exits north of the tunnel. This will eliminate weaving traffic in the tunnel. Southbound traffic has no weaving problems.

Main problem is when an accident occurs the whole city gets locked. It happens several times a year. The alternativ is the bridge with roads leading through the heart of the city. Or.. A narrow bridge 30 km west

And.. Yes there are talks about a 3rd tube
