Transit through Sundsvall:

Getting pretty north now. Thinking of the heatwave I left behind in England.

Part four

Final delivery Mo-i-Rana, Norway. All the way from England just for that one cage.

I am posting the return journey via Oslo in the Norway thread. I will post the transits through England, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Denmark in the appropriate threads as well. I didn't take pictures in Germany.

Yeah that's 2-3 years ago regular price, but it could happen when local price wars break out.
THX god my town is often in the top of lowest prices, it's 13.99 kr at my local "mack" now, while the town next to me is has the lowest in Sweden now with 13.75.

So you were driving to Jönköping? Did you drive past a town called Ulricehamn?

Nah never been there. In this particular trip I was passing Jonkoping on my way to northern Norway. I pass it all the time when going to my regulars in Stockholm, Finland, Skovde and Kristinehamn...

The road looks really nice, I thought it would be more rough with the climate and all.

The climate is really not all that harsh, especially in southern Sweden. The summers are warm.

Upper Värmland is harsh, trust me.

The surroundings of E45 up to Torsby are among the northernmost areas of cultivated farmland in Värmland.

I drove from Kongsvinger to Torsby on a late afternoon. That was one of the most deserted roads I've ever driven, I think I encountered maybe 10 cars on the 80 km trip, and there are no real towns and few houses along the road.

Upper Värmland is quite continental, with warm days and cold nights in Summer for example, am I right?

I haven't got much experience with northern Scandinavia, but I was camping in Norway and Sweden and it wasn't cold at night at all, due to the long days with sunlight. It was about 20 - 25 °C during the day, but probably not far below 15 °C at night. I've had much friskier nights in the Alps in mid-summer.

Värmland is not harsh. Quite surprised someone from Sweden thinks so... Obviously winters are more harsh compared to Scania, but on par with Stockholm or southern Norway.

Well, -30C is not uncommon during wintertime. But the landscape and fauna is quite lush despite this.

What? It IS uncommon. I'm from Värmland myself, during the winter of 2010 or 2011 there was a week with temperatures around -28 degrees, but this was seen as extreme weather. Normal winter temperatures are -10 degrees.

According to Wikipedia the average low in Karlstad is -8 °C in winter. The record low is -36 °C. But I suppose northern Värmland is colder than Karlstad, where the lake and shorter distance to the sea may moderate the winter cold.

North Värmland has an average as low as -10C January, that is harsh in my opinion.
