My take is the reverse. It is the only way the Socialdemocrats to back out of a project more and more of them realize is a waste of money.

3 kilometers of new RV 49 opened to traffic today. It is located south of the RV 50, south of Askersund, north of Lake Vättern. It's a 2x1 100 km/h road with cable barrier.

Seeing 100 on the speed limit sign is still strange to me. Just looks wrong. 30, 50, 70, 90, 110 - those are the ones that look "normal" to me. Maybe I'm just getting old.

E4 is still 110 in Västerbotten and Norrbotten on the 2+1 sections

Indeed. I'd rather we added 130, and removed the silly 20-40-60-80-100-120 limits, perhaps keep 40 available for city centres and residential areas to please the politicians.

Imagine seeing this on the motorway.

When cars drive themselves and human-driven cars are banned from motorways - then some bits might even have 150+ as a limit. Til then it won't happen. Too many deaths otherwise.
40 is IMO a compromise that we should stop doing. 30 km/h on all streets in all cities. having some be 30, some 40, some 50? too many signs, too much confusion, too much noise and too many injuries.

Actually it's just 1+1 it seems. And rigid barrier, not cable according to the picture posted

When I was younger, I remember having made fun of Swedes (as well as Ålanders) and their silly odd-ten-limits.

E4 Sundsvall

I wasn't aware the Sundsvall Bridge is a toll road.

Will be interesting seeing how many will choose the old road to avoid the toll.
Iirc the toll is simply to pay for the bridge. Which makes sense in a way, but at the same time not.

The toll is only 9 kronor (€ 1) for a passenger car. I suppose they modeled how much traffic would be scared off by the tolls.

They intend to toll foreigners as well, though I doubt it will be worth it. I think most foreigners would use the bridge at best 2 times (return trip). Billing and invoicing probably cost more than 18 kronor.

November is an interesting month for swedens motorways. Most parts of the E4 in Sundsvall opened on the 10th and parts of Norra Länken will open on the 30th. All in all, only 25 km of new motorway but the scale of the two projects is quite impressive.

Some pictures from E4 Sundsvall

And some pictures from Norra Länken, some of which are rather dated by now.

The official opening ceremony is on 16th November:

Finalens första del blev en succe med uppskattningsvis över 10 000 besökare. Nu tar vi nya tag och siktar på del 2 i höstens finalaktiviteter. Den 16 november är det dags för "Tuta och kör" när sträckan Myre - Skönsmon öppnas för trafik.

I don't get it. Has the entire section been opened on 10th November?

Looks like I was wrong. The part north of the bridge opened on the 10th. The part south of the bridge will open on the 16th and the bridge itself will open on the 18th of december. Phew.

The part north of the opened interchange is not a new motorway.

9 kr seems like a reasonable toll. Not many who'll think it's not worth it.
I'm guessing that they'll get foreigners to pay it as well is mostly so the locals don't start griping about unfairness.
