The idea is not new. Rather high-profile organizations were planning a fixed link between Åland islands the the mainline Finland in 1950's and 1960's.

The plans included two options and they were based on bridges and causeways. They faced a strong criticism for environmental reasons. The archipelago is a very sensitive area.

The plans were gradually abandoned as the ferry connections improved quickly: They are reliable, they have a lot of capacity, they run all-year-round and the prices are moderate.

There has never been seriously interested in building such a road. And what would Sweden with this kind of road to? No financial talks to build it.

So I think we can forget this sort of fantasy projects.

I am convinced that such a project would be good both for the climate and the economy of the two countries involved in the long run. Fast ferries are terrible for the climate, at least if run on diesel.

However, it is very important to take the environmental aspects seriously. In this case I would assume that would include, among other things, ensuring that the water circulation is not affected by the various crossings, and that systems are in place such that wild mammals (predators in particular) cannot cross to the islands and between the countries.

Actually the road to Åland wasn't built from mainland, for environmental reasons, already in the sixties. I still think that a Stockholm-Turku-Helsinki-high-level-connection would be a good thing.

E4 in Norrköping: Planned interchange already too small

The soon-to-be-built interchange "Trafikplats Bråvalla" west of Norrköping is already too small and underdimensioned for new future traffic predictions. The local planners at the municipality have submitted a request for a new detail plan after they concluded that the previously calculated AADT is off by more than 4 000 vehicles per day.

The 2011 calculation was an AADT of 9 900, but new calculations puts the AADT closer to 13 000-14 000. The estimated cost was about 62 million SEK (6,7 million €), but now an additional 20 million SEK (2,1 million €) will be needed. Completion is set for June 2017.

The upper right roundabout is pure BS, something fishy is going on in the lower left to cause them to waste land, money and time with the 3rd roundabout. Probably some bigwig with connections in city hall, seen this many times before.
Re-do!

EDIT...If they are obsessed with keeping roads off the farm, they could also just spin the west bound traffic to join E4 before the 3rd roundabout and have E4 exit traffic where the road leaves towards the 3rd roundabout.
Wow Swedish road engineers are stupid.

Pure BS indeed, or South Europe. E63 near Turku in Finland makes a huge curve on it's motorway segment that is steady and plain. Suprise, it surpasses all of what whas the General Secretary of the Agrarian Party (now Centre and much of changed) Arvo Korsimo's farm causing significant wastes on money at the time.

Of course, if that in Sweden is a farm for example of botanical or historical interest, I understand. Now is it?

I know of many examples where politicians or other officials have caused insane delays or expensive changes to plans where a mere mortal would have been simply run over by the machine..aka authorities.

We in the Nordics only think corruption happens elsewhere in the world when its very common in our own backyard.

Some selected roadworks on the Swedish road network, that will significantly hinder traffic this summer.

Gothenburg's motorway network is spectacular. It must indeed be the most "American" city in the Nordics

It's quite substandard though. Suboptimal alignment, lack of shoulders, lane splits, tight interchanges, etc.

Like I said: American The network was built mainly roughly from 1950 to late 1960's; still, the citizens have no "Green fear" of building freeways surrounding the city center even in 2015, as it seems.

Road 34 today. A 2+1 road. Speed limit 100km/h, which can be quite stressful when you enter from a less important narrow road.

When a more important road crosses the road 34, speed is 70km/h.

It seems there is too much traffic there for just 2+1^
