A road with 1000 5-axle trucks per day carries 1,825,000 truck axles per year. A few more or less axles isn't going to make any difference unless the road pavement is severly substandard. Otherwise the roads would be falling apart from a few irregular oversized transports.

Guys relax, in the vid they say that more axles counter the increased load.

After more then 400 000 km and 80 000 tons(vid from Jan 2011) the rig used 20% less fuel per ton and 2 of these new ones took what 3 regular big rigs took as far as load.
No increased road wear had been detected and this was in January 2011, so now they want to bring it south, this tells me the last 2 years since then where fine as well.

The article spoke of slower speeds at some locations could cause bottlenecks and if made permanent these spots would need a 3rd lane.

I know what they are talking about, the climb south of Jönköping, near Gränna and Kålmården for example, already today some trucks lose steam here and end up being passed by other slow movers, causing problems for faster cars.

The city is located on the bank of a large lake Mälaren. The largest lakeside port of Scandinavia is located there.

I so envy that in Sweden politics understand that road infrastructure just cannot let be unbuilt. Well, there isn't also 25% of municipal seats occupied by Greens in big cities...

Our capitals have a difference of 0,6 million people (2,0 vs 1,4). Stockholm = rough 100 metro stations. Helsinki = 16 metro stations.

What makes me not proud and angry is that here projects are planned since 50's. Two years ago all seemed like it finally will happen, but then Greens made a "silent revolution" in the city planning byro and ruined all. + one-citizen-made-complains that make every project to postpone at least for a year.

I'm afraid, no English translation possible.
It is taken from a well-known Spanish newspaper.

An article titled "Swedish lessons for the road"

Hope Google translator and that stuff will help

Sweden is sparsely populated, has light and easy traffic and a tradition of defensive driving. Strong temperance movement against drinking of alcohol, which is expensive to purchase.

Continental Europe: Crowded, dense traffic, overpopulated and completely different drinking habits. Also there is an offensive driving tradition.

So I dont think anything is going to change it is a cultural thing, if people are
hotheads at home they're not going to behave differently behind the wheel of their car.

The E4 this sunday. You could probably shut down one lane and still there would be no queues. A queue on the motorway is a very rare occurance in this country. No wonder that a swede who drives of the ferry in Germany gets a shock when he sees dense traffic and congestions for real.
