To be honest I was a danger to myself driving monotonous roads while really tired ...never again!
Don't underestimate the attraction that central european cityslickers have for big endless forest landscapes.

My Dutch friend was amazed at that as well as our wide 13 meter roads, such as this one that used to be the E4 back in the day.

Göteborg congestion charge

The congestion charge in Göteborg is now running into its second year of operation, so we can make a comparison of the amount of vehicles passing the toll cordon.

These figures are adjusted for the amount of toll days per month (which varies).

2013:
* January: 482,000 per day
* February: 515,000 per day
* March: 542,000 per day

2014:
* January: 590,000 per day (+22%)
* February: 580,000 per day (+13%)
* March: 600,000 per day (+10%)

It would be interesting to compare these figures with pre-congestion charge accesses.

Eh... ? From pre-congestion charge onwards the rise has been 100%.

You mean more cars are passing the toll stations since the introduction of the congestion charge? I find that unlikely.

I'll be driving through Göteborg on Monday morning (E6). I understand that Sweden has no Pentecost Monday, does this mean there will be normal rush hour traffic through Göteborg at say, 9 a.m.?

Yes. We lost that holiday in exchange for National Day.

Paint the center line yellow and make the stripes along the road edges solid white and I could say it was somewhere in the Canadian Province of Alberta. Southern Sweden does remind me a lot of that Province.

I drove some of those über wide roads yesterday and today. They are indeed remarkable, I haven't seen that elsewhere yet.

Well, some of the roads were really important not so long ago. For instance the non-motorway-non-expressway E4 through Scania didn't feel so wide at all back then (2003).

True. In addition, the driving culture on those road was odd and bad. Good to get rid of them.

While I don't agree that it was good to get rid of them entirely since they have their own charm, I do agree the driving culture made them unsafe. Here's a good video example on the dangers.

Notice how the road is signed as motortrafikled with a 110 km/h speed limit.

They have some of those in Poland too. They look like the Swedish roads.

Indeed... take away traffic, then take away speed limit?!

Anyway I am not sure, maybe that way was better, one less Lada on the road

Most of these type of roads are now converted into 2+1 roads with wire barriers like the secondary countyroad E636 Linköping-Vikingstad.
