I'm glad that huge Capital Hill development will take over old QFC site. I walk pass that site everytime I go to Capital Hill, I always wonder when will they get redeveloped. I wonder what retail/restaurant will that development going to attract.

I think that you're going to see a bit of a hole in the middle of Broadway for about 5 years or so. There is movement now on the project across the street from SCC which is 6 floors of residential above a base of retail, the north east corner of Broadway and Pine St. then you'll have SCC, the funeral parlor, then a whole block of construction with the light rail tunnel/station. It'll be awkward for awhile, we won't really have much cohesiveness until around 2013 at the earliest on Broadway, imho. |

I was out on my bike today and noticed that it looks like the Wonder Bread site (18th & Jackson) and the site just to the west of it have both started digging. I think they're 6 stories and ~300 units together, though I'm not sure...

Looks like they are just about to start excavation on the old albertsons site in greenlake. All of the old trees and curbs from the old parking lot are gone

Tower crane is up at the Thorton Creek block near Northgate.
And that's good to hear about the wonder bread neighborhood! Big leap forward for a transitional area. |

Interesting news from last night's Roosevelt Neighborhood Assn meeting on 2 mid-rise projects in the Roosevelt Neighborhood on 66th street.
#1: Brooklyn Court: Developer presented renderings and site plans for a 42 unit 4 story apt building on the north half of the block on NE 66th street between 12th ave NE and Brooklyn ave. The building was a charming complex with 2 store fronts on 12th ave, and 4 live/work units and commercial parking on 66th ave (resident parking underground with entrance on Brooklyn). The one snag that is holding up the project is that in the very middle of the lot is a rather large tree that the city council does not want removed (counts as an "exceptional tree" because it measures more than 48" in diameter). Developer said they have developed a tree replacement plan with an arborist that would actually increase the tree cover for the site, but the council was not very receptive. We'll see what happens with that. #2: "Fruit Stand Block" block bounded by 66th and 65th streets and 14th and 15th ave NE (houses formerly owned by Sisley). The developer that spoke at the meeting didn't really say much of anything. When grilled about the height of the building, the rep said "dont know, too early to tell" but there are rumblings it could be 10 stories or more right in the middle of a neighborhood of mostly 2 and 4 story buildings and single family houses. The people at the meeting expressed very strong concerns about the height and architectural character of whatever building gets developed, parking concerns, and concerns about what currently resides on the site (several abandoned houses, etc.). The rep responded with "how do you want me to remember all this stuff, I'm just standing here with a microphone..."

Veer Lofts is pouring their final floor of concrete this morning. They've already begun the wood framing for floor #2. Looks liek this one will be ready for occupancy next summer!

There is a lot of information here on 523 Broadway E. This is the block that the old QFC was on and has details of the project. |

This is from the Design Commission for their suggestions. There will be another meeting at 8PM on Nov. 8th at the Yesler Community Center where the developer will give their changes. |

from that website-
![]() ![]() man that is not good enough for broadway. im sorry but those colors won't look good when they get built (what is with that nasty yellow in today's development world?) and the fact it's stucco would make it look completely out of place. i don't mind the rest of the aspects of the building but they need to try harder.

^ Okay I wouldn't mind that in say Belltown...but Broadway?? Jeez those two areas will look the same in 10 years!
Anyway I hate those contemporary colorful "Northwest" styles we only see now. |

I kind of like it. Maybe not the yellow but definitely the green. I'd much rather have colors than the gray crap being built at Denny in Belltown, or the beige you see so much of.
In any case, that development should help Broadway. I was up there a couple weeks ago and noticed they have a vacancy issue around that end. |

Isnt there a project at the corner of 45th and Stone Way in Wallingford that has almost these exact colors? I'll have to pay more attention next time I go by, but that building (apartments I think) looks pretty good at least to my eye.
