I haven't seen it in person yet, but those pictures don't look all that bad to me. It would be better if the upper windows mimicked the lower window shape or the cornices above matched the historical ones below. And it will undoubtedly feel more integrated to the neighborhood once the sidewalk is open and there are some trees around. But it's a million times better than, say, the monstrosity behind Trader Joe's on 17th(?).

Anyways, hopefully the other "facadism" project on Pine and 11th will turn out better.

Here's a photo of 200 West Highland from mid september.

I love that building! My friend and I looked at this beautiful penthouses before it got sold last spring. It has great view but you don't get whole 180' view because of one building near that block some views. Some units are little overpriced for very little views. No wonder it didn't sell well. I think they need to be more realistic with the pricing.

It's a decent building but it has nothing on what it replaced.

What building are you referring to?

The Capco Plaza with the QFC is disgustingly bland.

The one I'm talking about isn't bland -- it's just awful. Hugeasscity's take on it (and a picture) is here: http://hugeasscity.com/2009/02/08/comic-relief/

Oh dear god that is horrendous. It's one of the worst pieces of architecture I have ever seen!

There's been some recent activity at Avalon Apts (which stalled after the developer filed for Ch. 7), mostly placing Tyvek (or similar wrap) on the plywood. I haven't seen anything as to whether they're just trying to prevent the building from becoming ruined or if they're actually going to finish it.

It's really quite odd. Who would have ever thought to put gables on a mixed-use mid-rise building? Not to mention the color scheme makes it look like some horrific Christmasy realization of a haunted house.

I thought that building looks like a pimento loaf.

Early design guidelines for 230 Broadway, this is pretty much a 2/3 block development from Bank of America to the Castle store, not including the Castle structure.

I like it! It remind me a bit of Brix but I am glad we are seeing more brownstone style townhouses going to be built on 10th too. I think around entire neighborhood between 10th to 15th should be redeveloped into full of brownstones. I think it is great location for that.

That would be so cool! Only problem is that they wouldn't really be authentic like the ones in Georgetown (DC) or other east coast places... we need some really cool, distinctive, modern version of a brownstone that in two hundred years will be considered a super cool architectural thing.

I love East Coast brownstones! Too bad we don't have much of them here. There is only modern brownstones I can think of and seen it in person before... Mill Quarters in Bend, Oregon. I think similar concept would work for Seattle too. http://www.millqtr.com/

They remind me of the brownstones on 10th Ave E. Clicky
I'd love to see those instead of the cookie-cutter, generic townhouses that are still popping up all over the city.
