#PROJECT: THE CORNICHE PROJECT / NATION TOWERS

ICT to develop plot on Abu Dhabi Corniche

Abu Dhabi: International Capital Trading (ICT), a major Abu Dhabi-based investment company, yesterday said it has signed loan agreements totalling more than Dh1.7 billion with four UAE banks to develop a vacant plot on the capital's Corniche.

The Dh3 billion Corniche project will be financed in part by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), First Gulf Bank (FGB) and National Bank of Dubai (NBD).

"The tenure of the loan is three years construction plus 10 years' repayment, 13 years in total," Ara Khederian, head of ICT's corporate and business development, told Gulf News. However, he declined to give specifics of interest rates or loan breakdown.

"The Corniche project, covering more than 3.1 million square feet, will encompass an extensive collection of luxury hospitality, luxury retail, Class A offices and residential components," an ICT statement said.

It added that the construction of the mixed-use development commenced in June and is scheduled to be completed by 2010.

"The project has been supported by top financiers in the UAE banking community and will provide us with the necessary capital resources to develop further world class projects," the statement quoted Hamad Abdullah Al Shamsi, ICT's chief executive officer, as saying.

Al Shamsi said ICT is confident of the Corniche project becoming one of the most sought-after retail, commercial, luxury hotel and residential destinations in the region.

#APPROVED: NATION TOWERS, ?F+?F Mixed Use (Corniche)

The winner of an international design competition, this mixed-use project on a very prominent waterfront site on Abu Dhabi’s Corniche uses the evocative imagery of waves of sand and water to create an architectural statement that will establish the project as a premier retail, residential and hospitality address not only in Abu Dhabi, but in the entire Gulf region.

With over 3 million square feet of space the complex includes a 5 star, 350-room hotel, serviced apartments, loft apartments, office space and an up-market niche retail destination. While each element retains its own access, the synergy of mutually supportive uses has been maximized. Views towards the Gulf and the downtown skyline have played a determining role in the siting and orientation of the towers.

MEED:
Tenders issued for Nation towers in Abu Dhabi

Contractors have been invited to bid by 27 April for the main contract works for the Nation towers project on Abu Dhabi corniche.

The prequalified contractors include the local/Lebanese Arabian Construction Company (ACC), the local Arabtec Construction, Saudi-based El-Seif Engineering Contracting Company and South Korea's Samsung Corporation.

An appointment is expected in May and completion is scheduled for September 2010.

The project involves the construction of a retail area, and office and residential towers, with a total built-up area of 310,000 square metres.

Germany's Bauer is working on the enabling package. US-based Hill International is the project manager. The local office of KEO International Consultants is the architect of record. Toronto-based WMZH is the concept architect. The local International Capital Trading is the client (MEED 28:9:07).

You take Toronto architects for the concept design and this is what will come out ... yeah I don't like them.
