2007 Vietnam : 821USD -> 2008 : 1024 USD ------ I may understand that 200 us dollars increase in Vietnam per capita GDP is from high real GDP growth + Inflation. Don't forget that last year Vietnam's inflation rate was > 20 %.
According to this list 2008 : 1018 -> 2009 : 1060 ???? Too slow !!!! -------- This could be a negative effect of the current global economic crisis. The first quarter GDP growth rate in Vietnam is about 3.5 % (much lower than last year in the same period). This same situation will happen for almost all countries. Please look at Singapore Malaysia Thailand and etc. |

Greetings from Jakarta, I don't think that source is valid since in Indonesia we experience a significant increase in our GDP percapita, and please don't use Wikipedia as your source, coz any one can change it, even my 10 yo nephew...

It's somewhat accurate and reasonable to some extent, though. The Wiki has made referencing directly from the IMF. Check it out by yourself from the bottom link.

some more related topics from WIKIPEDIA:
List of countries by future GDP (nominal) estimates List of countries by future GDP (PPP) estimates List of countries by future GDP (PPP) per capita estimates List of countries by future GDP (nominal) per capita estimates In my opinion, WIKIPEDIA is the best primary information source for anyone to see. If we want something more reliable, we have to go to some other related agency's websites. Actually, it's from IMF World Economic Outlook April 2009 >>>>>>>>> You "Bagak" can check it. nothing is impossible. According to the 2010 annual plan, GDP per Capita will be about 1220 USD. And we both know, 2008 - 2010 period is the most horrible depression of Economy. No doubt that GDP increases so slowly. But after that, what will happen? Noone knows. So the best way is doing everything with your best and hope everything will be better.

1 Trillion and $10000 per capita? What year of the US dollar these figures base on?
If it's 2009 dollar then it's impossible. Dreaming cannot not change a nation. If it's 2030 dollar then it's possible, if there is hyperinflation of the US dollar. But then $10000 may buy you the same things as $1000 now. By the way, I'm not worrying too much about the speed of growth, but more about the quality of growth. We need to be able to make things that other people pay more money for, the high tech and/or high quality stuff, instead of rice and fruits. We need to make things that we can use to defend ourselves. We can choose to have more money, but when the difficult time comes, money alone can't save you. Countries like South Korea or India is what I like. Last edited by vn1975victory; August 18th, 2009 at 06:47 PM. |

Taking into account of the culture and politics of Vietnam, $10000 per capita over the next twenty years or beyond is very possible, similar with Japan, Taiwan, S.Korea and Singapore belonging to the Confucian cultural circle who traditionally values education and family ties, the ppl diligent and smart and plus the society in good order, so it's quite quite quite possible. And the proper models you can follow are South Korea and Taiwan, either to build several multinational companies by country or a bunch of small-size/mid-size high-tech enterprises by her ppl. Either way will do!
But why India? Vietnam is too much different from Inida, not in the same league. And according to my experience, in many aspects India is not even so good as Vietnam now. |

Vietnam to follow East Asian tigers where Chinese dominate? Impossible.Vietnam will be likely to develop into the same league with Philippines or Indonesia. As developed as Thailand at best. Vietnam is now as developed as India whereas India is even growing slightly faster than Viet Nam. T |

In fact, Thailand is able to be considered as a Confucian society to some extent, considering there are many Chinese descendants living Bangkok and other major cities. But Thailand lacks a strong government and a stable political environment so that their numerous small national companies can't act in their own and gain the best interests when dealing with those foreign multinational enterprise which are as rich as a country and end up with their OEMs at the bottom of the value chain. In this case, Malaysia did a little better than Thailand, and Philippines, sorry, she is much worse than Thailand. As to India, it's a wrong comparison in any way
