The trams also successfully travelled over new connections in Török utca and Frankel Leó utca, which connect the former Line 17 with lines 4 and 6

Perhaps the northern extension of the M3 line has the highest likelihood - though it's still not too high.

Budapest Line M4 cleared to go driverless
07 Jan 2016

HUNGARY: Budapest Mayor István Tarlós and President of national transport authority NKH Gyula Győri announced on January 6 that the final permit has been granted for Line M4 of the Budapest metro to operate without drivers. It is planned to commence driverless operation in September, following the completion of test runs without drivers last December.

Construction of the 7ˇ4 km underground line between Keleti and Kelenföld main line stations began in 2006 and it opened for passenger service in March 2014. As not all of the 10 stations could accommodate the length of train required for the design capacity, a decision was taken to run shorter trains more frequently. The train control system supplied by Siemens allows for up to 30 trains/h, with a capacity of 20 100 passengers/direction/h

They will finish working on the tram underpass at the Chain Bridge by the middle of March, so #19 and an even longer #41 will operate on their full lengths from then.

P.s though #17 isn't too short now either

It is quite interesting actually when you think about it. The new section is quite short, but completing it was a bit complicated both because of the suburban rail tunnel that runs right underneath it and the layout itself (I'm talking around the area around the Margit bridge). To balance these out: it is a short but very important section allowing the restructuration of the tram network of the Buda side of the city.

p.s.: of course we shouldn't forget the refurbishment of the old tracks of tram #17 and the works going on at Széll Kálmán square.

Budapest suburban line ownership change
24 Feb 2016

HUNGARY: Budapest Mayor István Tarlós and Minister of National Development Miklós Seszták have agreed that national rail operator MÁV is to take over operation of all HÉV suburban lines that run beyond the city boundary. This will follow the government taking over all operating costs of these lines, currently financed by Budapest municipality.

HÉV lines H5, H6, H7, H8 and H9 are currently operated by city transport operator BKV. The city is no longer able to receive EU funds to replace ageing HÉV rolling stock during the 2014-20 EU budget period, whereas MÁV would be able to invest in fleet replacement. Managing director of Stadler’s Szolnok plant Zoltán Dunai has said that the company could develop an EMU from its Flirt family for use on HÉV lines

...
So what will happen to project of some of HEV lines convertion to metro standards?

The H7 line does not cross the city's boundaries, so it will continue to be operated by BKV (they plan to turn it into a tram line, with which I personally don't agree).

I noticed on M2 and M4 metro trains, that there is a kind of gap in the acceleration between 35-40 km/h... Does anybody know, what's the reason for this? Sometimes the trains accelerate only for 5 or 10 km/h after the gap and it seemed to me very useless and uncomfortable.
