I just show one of trendiest district of Paris.
With the french National Library, several big universities, this district become important. It is only at 2 km of Notre Dame.

One of first "cafe" in this district was a Starbucks

I'm sorry! but this tottaly ruins my romantic view of Paris! It looks like my local 1960's built town centre, and you will have to tell me the name of this district so that I will never ever see it again!

"Paris rive gauche" is the name of this district, before it was an industrial waste land.

No Paris is not a museum city.
It is not an new industrial part, it is an office and residencial district.

It's OK to like a romantic Paris but that just simply isn't all that Paris is. Paris is an ever-evolving major cities, just like many others. Paris already does a lot to preserve itself, much more than most cities. However, this doesn't change the fact that Paris has to plant new seeds, which it does.

This particular area, like the author of this thread has said, was an industrial wasteland catering to industries that died out or became out-dated, as was the case in many cities. So the City of Paris turned it into a liveable area with mixed-use development, as is most of Paris. The architecture chosen was contemporary. They even built over an ugly railyard. Today the place is alive and no longer an abandonned industrial wasteland. Yet Paris continues to have preserved, "romantic" architecture elsewhere. So Paris only gained something...she didn't loose anything, unless you are into abondonned industrial eye sores. (Only a few of those industrial buildings were preserved as to give it a hint of its past).

That sign is in René Goscinny street, the father of the adventures of Asterix and Obelix (a comic book), and one of the most famous sentences of Obelix is "these romans are crazy!"

You know this is nice but as more cities around the world keep building these modern buildings its identity is somewhat diluted. After a hundred or two hundred years every city around the world will just look minimalistic or modern.
Hopefully most European cities will preserve their own traditional architectural style over the coming years. Asia for the most part has already lost its traditional style. Kinda sad in a way.
