I still keep asking myself why they filled the lake allready...

The lake is still far from completion, but a part of it is allready filled with water. Is it to test the colors? Or as refeshment for the workers?

Parts of the Old Town next to the lake are being handovered and also an hotel opened its doors a few weeks ago. You can understand that a dry lake isn't attractive to residents and tourists, so they filled a small section of the lake.

Is the facade doesn't having any progress?
I think the progress is stopped since 1 or 2 weeks ago

And viewing the Imre's photos, the Burj Dubai is now at 156 or 157 levels.

Are they still pumping the concrete to the top or are they using an alternative method at this stage?

I will only second that! I just shake my head and feel it's unreal, but then again, it is in a sense because we've never seen a building go this high before. The looming presence it has over the entire downtown is awe-inspiring. Gives me that same feeling I get whenever I'm going to Chicago and see the Sears downtown, or even watching the Towering Inferno - to see something not just clipping the building lines but to soar far and above everything else.

I feel like that core should aesthetically just keep shooting up instead of stopping - the lines draw you to that certainly. For some reason though, I believe it was the 808 / 818 meter designs that had the most elegant roof / spire designs, IMO. Then again we keep seeing model after model and I don't know if it's just me, but none of them seem to finalize very well save one or two models that had me saying "Yes!". All that awaits us now is to see how fast they will "chip away" at the core and how elongated the entire roof / spire portion will be (even *if* we do have what are pretty final figures).

Thanks Imre for these wonderful and amazing shots! Every one is breathtaking.

HE'S NOT EVEN TAKING PHOTOS AT EVEN HEIGHT TO THE TOP OF THE BUILDING!!

*That* is what shocks me the most (and yet look at that view).

Got any idea how high you were flying for most of the time Imre?

Thanks for the great pics, Imre

According to the view at Millenium Tower in the foreground, the height of the chopper seems to be ~350-400m max (top of the spire of this building being 280m high).

I think they go for 850m end more!!!

The height of the building i think is now +/-585m , end the +/- 250m steelstructure end antenne above. It makes 830m, perhaps a longer antenne 850m? We will see...

2007.oct.08
Burj Dubai is now 574.5 meters tall at level 154, it is 65 m ahead of Taipei 101 and 21 m ahead of CN Tower.

a level = 3 days of work... now 19 oct.

11 days further= almost 4 stories
almost 4 stories= +/-12m

Teorically yes, practically no: They should be on the 155 Mezzanine floor now.

It's my province (in Canada) so seeing it definitely was quite a pleasant surprise!
As Fury said, RWDI did the wind testing for the tower, and indeed because of its complexity and unprecedented shape, the tower was almost designed entirely in the wind tunnel. RWDI is headquartered only a few kilometers from my home in Guelph, Ontario.

I wonder why too. That lake looks absolutely awful in contrast to the mighty developments around it.
