Cool Observation Deck Perspective

When you look at Cul's latest diagram and see that the BD observation deck is only 9-10 stories taller than the one on Sears tower it does make me wonder that perhaps it would have been better to have a smaller observation deck level footprint in square footage with maybe less fancy-schmacy interpretive bells and whistles and go for the higher altitude...like level 150 or 160....much smaller floors but zowie...a lot lot higher. Have all the interp stuff down below...plus now Sears has those acrylic sky-box bump outs where you can actually STAND on plexiglass and look straight down to street level....yikes. AND the Shanghai World Financial Center has TWO observation decks at or higher that what they are going to do at Burj Dubai.... makes ya wonder.

Great observation deck pics.....one thing continues to baffle me though....why did the architects not put the deck above existing deck heights?

Why would you not have the world's highest obs deck in the world's tallest building???

problem with a hiigher observtion deck ,is getting the masses up there. the floors reduce greatly as it climbs.but i cant see why lev160mezzanine cant be an observation deck. obvioulsy you would have to pay more for the etxra treat.
you would have to catch another lift to lev140, then change agin for the lift which takes you to 160.being up over 2000ft would be a h00t.

Hi all.

Great updates all.

I was going to reply to 234's shots of the cranes by saying yes the small crane is R3 which will lower R1 down to level 99 and it sure looks like R1 is in position to be disassembled.

As always OTR you are the man of the moment. I imagine R2 at level 99 will grab the pieces and lower them to the podium right away. I posted a few days ago there is a small chance they will have to set up R1 at level 99 to lower the larger R2 that is there now but I think they increased the size of R3 to deal with R2.

So after R1 is gone we will see R3 disappear from level 159 and re-appear on level 99 - all done manually and moved down in an elevator.

Then they can get the cladding done where R1 was. Also there is still the cladding installation rails left on many terraces. Those will be replaced with the permanent rails with the glass panels as they have done on the lower terraces.

Cul - I agree with you that this thing is a once in a lifetime project - hense the reason I chose my sig shortly after joining here. I hope there will be a taller project within the next decade - I really do. Even when that happens it will not take away the fact that my sig says. The amount that this thing raised the height records will just open the gates of new taller projects but the BD will always be the first half mile high. The complex arrangement of tiers combined with the data we had early in construction truly make it unforgettable for me. It is unlikely we will get all this info on any other project after it is completed, let alone during construction.

Oh - and did I ever mention I love this thing ?!? Does it show ....

I really do agree with your signature fury... it truley is magnificant... the style of architecture just gives you that sense of true height and represents the middle east well- being the first worlds tallest in the area since the pyramids...

Wasn't scaled perfectly. Not far off though. Hard to scale perfectly anyway unless you do a lot of math.

One of the world’s highest public observation decks, At The Top - located on Level 124 - will not only offer visitors majestic, sweeping vistas of Dubai, but will also be an evocative and interactive journey through the history and evolution of Dubai and Burj Dubai.

Thomas Dempsey, General Manager, Burj Dubai, says At The Top will be a never-before experience for visitors. “The entire journey - starting from the welcome lobby at The Dubai Mall through a 65-metre travelator to the vertical travel in a double-deck elevator to finally watching the world uninterrupted from Level 124 - is educational, inspirational, compelling and thoroughly fulfilling.”

Does anyone know the route from the Dubai Mall ? Lower level = LG Level,
where is the travelator ? to the BD, coming in on P1 level ?, then how do we get to the "Ground Floor" to get the upper deck of the lift to 124.

There are escalators from P1 to Concourse, but that would bring us to L123 which is where the business elevator lobby has connections to the levels from 112 to 154.

If we had this info, we could then visualise the whole trip from the mall to the OB-deck.

Also, how would people get from the hotel lobby on Level 1, up to the OB-deck, and club level which is on 122 The OB-llifts do not stop on Level 1, and the entrance to the hotel club is on 123, which means clients need to get down to the concourse level to get the OB-lift to 123 using the lower deck of the OB-lifts.

Does anyone know how this will be done ?

Thank you

The views from the observation deck will be simply the best and wonderful once the skyline gets more density!
